Is a 7 yr old too old to start playing with Barbie's

I swore that MY dd's would not have a Barbie doll. Too sterotypical, bad body image, unenlightened in every way. I wouldn't allow either Grandmother to give her any Barbies, either.

Then one day I picked up my oldest at daycare. She was probably 4 years old. She was so excited to show me the doll she was playing with. Holding up a Barbie to show me, she said "Mommy look at this doll! Her name is Bar bie" (Said very slowly to make sure I could understand) She loved the doll and I got a swift reminder that for all my great theories on how to raise a daughter sometimes a girl just needs to play Barbies.

Now I have 3 dds ages 9, 7 and 3. They all play Barbies together. The 7 yr old just got the townhouse for her birthday. The Kens tend to loose their limbs and get incorporated into Halloween decorations.

When the girls ask questions about the breasts on Barbie, I make sure to remind them that they are to feed her babies!;)

Not at all. I think that is a normal age for girls to play with Barbies.

I agree. My friends only got barbies once we were well into elementary school, and we played with them for a LONG time. Didn't play at school, of course, but when i'd go to a friend's house we'd spend ages with her barbies (I had two, she had a million it seems, and all the accessories).

DD10 still plays Barbie's...with her sister, DD14. LOL DD14 is starting to complaing about it but not too badly yet. :)
