Is 3 days at end of Jan better than 5 during Christmas week?

Initially, we were planning on surprising the kids with a trip to DL on Christmas. We would fly out Christmas afternoon and stay till New Year's spending 5 days at the parks.
However, since we just got back from WDW, I'm starting to rethink our plans. I don't think we can handle the Christmas week crowds.
Sooooo I started thinking it might be better to change our trip dates to the end of January when the kids have a long weekend off from school but we would only be able to spend 3 full days at the parks.

The main focus of the trip will be Carsland since the kids have been begging to see it. Do you all think we would be able to see and do so much more during those 3 days than Christmas week?

I think the trip will still be as a Christmas gift to the kids but we just won't be flying the same day but a month later.

What do you all think?

If the purpose is strictly to see Cars Land, then the end of Jan is probably better. Be aware, there will be rides down for refurb during your visit.

To be honest, this year has not really had a slow or busy season, especially since Carsland opened. What really makes the difference is look at how many Annual Passes are blacked out on the days you are going, the more levels that are blacked out, the lighter the crowds will be as a general rule.

Additionally, the end of January may feel more crowded than during Christmas, even though there may be more people there during Christmas, this year with as much going down for rehab as it is and the fact that there is usually less entertainment that time of the year.

I'm just worried that with Christmas week being the busiest week of the year, we are not going to enjoy it much. Also, on NYE we would have to spend the whole day and night at the park without a break b/c the park may reach capacity and close.

I agree with cmwade, however the AP black out theory does not apply to the general rule during the Christmas week. I even think a lot of us Premium AP locals stay away from DL during this time due to the crowds. We'll hit up DL before Christmas for the festivities.
