That is the cheapest I can find leaving out of Asheville.Would you pay that much and be there in 1hr 40 min,or drive 9 hrs?

Hi, fellow Tar Heel! We used to live in Arden long, long time ago. Now I live in Raleigh so am lucky to be able to get great fares out of our airport to most places. BUT if the best deal I could find was above $150 a person, and if i had two or more people going with me, I'd choose to drive (probably) because if we flew, I'd also probably have to deal with a car rental in Orlando which drives my trip price up even more. I have driven from Raleigh to Orlando several times, as the only driver, and drove straight thru with only bathroom and meal breaks. The nine hours and a few minutes was really no big deal as it is interstate all the way from here. Easy to drive. Borrow some audio books from your local library and away you go! I am flying in November because i only have a few days to squeeze a trip in and I got a terrific air fare. Yes, the short FLIGHT time seems enticing, but I always think about the fact that, for recommended arrival times before flights, I need to leave my house about 2 hours before the flight ( so there's four hours already),the flight might be delayed, then I have to wait for baggage at both ends (unless I use ME on arrival which i do plan to do this time), and then have to factor in the time and possible hassle to reserve and pick up a rental car, and the net difference in time spent on travel isn't always all that significant. SO think about how many people in your party and the other factors impacting your trip...your TIME budget as well as your $$$ budget. Good luck!

The other question is how long you'll be there. A long weekend, I might still fly. A week (or more) and driving might not be so bad.

I'd drive it. We are flying out of our little airport here in Maryland and connecting in Charlotte and I paid $168 pp and there are 4 of us. That is the lowest I have ever paid. Usually, it is over $220 pp, but I played around with our travel dates until I found the lower rate. I think that I got really lucky.

Plus, our closest airport is 2.5 hours away and after driving up and paying for parking it just isn't worth our time to fly out of BWI or Dulles. Oh, and then if we fly out early we would spend the night prior to leaving so that we didn't have to leave our house at 3am.

How many people do you have to buy tickets for?

Will you need a car when you get to WDW?

Would you pay that much and be there in 1hr 40 min? +2hrs here +2hrs there +parking +car rental+++

No, Pack your car at 6 a.m. leave your drive way, check into your room at 4 p.m., go to a fancy resaurant at 7p.m. and get a good night sleep for WDW the next day.
Then again, we live in Boston and driving down in my Xterra would take 22 hours and cost $450 round trip, we're paying $496 (+$80 transfers+200 car rental) on Song for the 3 of us.
Good Luck

I would drive 9 hrs. We've always driven for 9-11 hrs and it is do-able. We'd leave about 6 am and be there before dinner. Actually, usually early enough to get in and unpacked, showered and then do dinner.

Boy I feel bad for people who have to fly out of small markets for airfair. I fly consistently out of chicago, which is twice as far as you are to MCO, and often pay $100 - $125 for airfair. Just booked our Dec trip to disney at $106 R.T. from Ohare. Maybee you should see if you could drive to a major market and then fly the rest of the way down.

I would pay it... I don't like to drive 9 hours. I want to be at DISNEY not on the interstate. Sorry, but that's basically two extra days at Disney. Plus if you stay on site and use ME there is no car expense at Disney

I would fly if I was solo (because you would spend a fair amount in gas these days, depending on what you drive) ...but to pay that fare for more than 1 person...it seems like driving would be the way to go. Remember if you drive and leave home at 6AM you will be there by 3 to 4 PM....if you fly and leave home at 6AM for an 8 or 8:30AM flight...it will get there at 10 or 10:30 AM and then add on 2 hours from airplane to hotel....so you will get there around noon or so.... which is 3 or 4 hours earlier....but that is a lot of $$ to pay for an extra 3 or 4 hours of vacation, especially if there are more than 2 of you going.

I wish I could drive to WDW in 9 hours....I would go a lot more often if I could!!

We live in NE N. C. and it usually takes us 12-13 hrs. to drive. We do this every year. Twice a couple of years .... since 1985....

Well, this year I downloaded Southwestern's DING and got $30 one-way tickets...$76.90 per person round trip -non-stop - out of Norfolk, VA.... I saw a DING in Raleigh for $25 one-way before that. This is our first time flying and I haven't found a decent price on car rental, yet...

Well there are 2 couples going. We will be using ME and we may do a rental for a couple of days so that would be split between us.
My DBIL and DSIL that are going with us have flown before and this will be our first time.We wanted to try a short flight first and then we could open alot of doors for the future.
I know its expensive to try this but my DSIL gets carsick really bad and I dont want to have to deal with that.We would have to take 2 cars anyway because she has an Altima and I have an Accord.
We will be leaving out Friday morning and the guys will come down Saturday morning. The airport is just about 20 minutes from my house so I dont have a long drive we will not be paying for parking because my DSIS is taking us to the airport and DHs brother will be taking them.

Thanks for all the replies but driving 9 hours 4 or 5 times a year gets old.I had rather pay the extra and be there in under half the time.

Misty
