Is 2015 The Year To Skip WDW?

The Hub construction was a bit of a downer in November. When you get to the end of main street that view is always so nice and coming out of Casey's Corner you do not get that nice view of the Castle nor over on the side of the Plaza restaurant. You could only see the very top of the floats of the parade from that vantage point.

Somehow that major construction during 7DMT did not bother me much. But this hub construction did. Still had a wonderful time but it did take a away a bit.

We have a trip booked for Sept 2015, but we may be waffling a little. In light of all of the construction at MK in the hub, a possible rehab at Soarin, the Maelstrom closure, construction walls at AK, the re-imagining and closing of practically half of HS, Downtown Disney in a shambles...... Is this the year we should skip going to WDW? We have always wanted to go to Disneyland and with 2015 being their 60th anniversary, would this be the time to go to California until WDW gets put back together?

I would say to go for the 60th anniversary celebration.

Everything won't be completed in 2016--but Saratoga Springs should be done and I would imagine the hub and AK stuff (except Avatarland) would be done.

A milestone celebration would seem more ideal to me for 2015.

That is also another reason to try DL this year

Honestly, while my recent WDW vacation was fun I'll be holding off on going back for a while. With all the construction and the crowd levels I think I'd be better off chilling elsewhere.

I'm in the DCL party boat for my next trip. That way I can actually relax and not need a vacation after my vacation. :rotfl:

I love DLR. I know a lot of WDW fans are disappointed, but as long as you know what to expect, I think it's an excellent place to get your Disney fix.
Basically, it has the same amount of attractions in 2 parks instead of 4 and park hopping there is the very best, since it takes 5 minutes. It is just so much easier than WDW, but that's just my opinion.

We have gone every year to WDW since 2007 and have seen many changes so far. I agree that the parks are not museums and that change can be good, but it's just all happening at once. DL seems like a good option right now. Let's let WDW settle down and maybe return in 2016.

If we do go to DL, which of the three on site hotels would you recommend for a first time visitor?

We arrive on the 20th and leave the 29th!! Where are you staying?

Awesome!!
We change our minds every five minutes..haha! We initially booked AoA, then changed to POR, but we're back at AoA for now. There's no telling where we'll end up!

Nope, we'll be there for our every 5 year extended family trip. I actually am okay with the construction because I tend to be too commando for my adult family members and I know my 4 year old and 1 year old won't be able to take it.

The only real bummer is if Soarin' is closed. We skipped it last year because we had a short trip and not much Epcot time so I was looking forward to it but we'll live.

HUB construction permits expire, I beleive, in August of 2015. Obviously these can always be extended, but I think construction is on schedule.

Studios is nothing but rumors so far, but at some point the park will have a large overhaul, but I wouldn't expect that to begin for another year or two.

Epcot won't have Maelstrom and I coudlnt care less. Soarin is all rumors currently, but if they come to fruition I don't see much down time.

Disney Springs will still have the most construction of any "park", but by the last quarter of 2015 it will be significantly less than now.

Sorry, but I can't help you there. Personally, I think the DLR resort hotels are really expensive (pretty close to a deluxe at WDW), so we stay at good neighbor hotels within walking distance to the parks. My favorite is the Candy Cane.

Wdwmagic.com has the expiration date for the Hub permits as November 2015. They could finish earlier, of course, but that doesn't seem to happen too often at WDW. Our next trip is in March, so I'm expecting to still see a lot of contruction in the Hub. Of course, our last trip was this past March, and the Hub was a bit of a mess then, too. Looking forward to seeing it in one piece again.

We spent five days at DL this summer for the first time, and I was surprised how much DD14 and I both loved it. DD wasn't really interested in going at first -- she's a true-blue WDW fan and didn't think she'd enjoy DL all that much. But it was fantastic. We stayed off-site for 2 nights, and then did 3 nights at Disneyland Hotel, which is now one of my all-time favorite Disney properties. It's not quite as convenient as Grand Californian (which has its own entrance to DCA), but it's still within a 10 minute walk of each park. We loved that the theming is Disneyland -- teacup seats in the lobby, light-up castle with fireworks on the headboards, monorail slides with the old-fashioned Disneyland sign. And, Trader Sam's is so much fun. Grand Californian is beautiful, very reminiscent of Wilderness Lodge, and some rooms have great views of DCA. Personally, I wouldn't do Paradise Pier -- it doesn't have the same Disney feel as the other hotels, although some rooms have gorgeous DCA views.

I would think crowds will be huge once the new attractions open, so 2015 might actually be the best time to go if you can swing it.

for me, yes.

Reports I am hearing that it is crowded all year round. and when i went in april - the MK was more busier than i like.

DISNEYLAND time!

I havent been there since 2008 - i gotta go back!

what we continue to believe is the happiest place on earth

Well just as an fyi that title technically belongs to Disneyland. lol
So with that in answer to op, yes you should go to DL this year!

DLH is really fantastic and is unlike any WDW property hotel. The bed sings you sleep with When you wish upon a star! Hard to get more Disney than that. They have a great pool as well. We have it booked for only about $20 more than a WDW moderate rack rate. So look around as there are deals to be had.

GCH is very nice and it will give you a bit of that WDW resort hotel experience. (well themed, etc.) Hard to get any closer than that to a park. It is $$$ though and the rooms are more of the size of a wdw moderate.

Holy Wallapalooza!!!!:eek: Dang, I didn't even know about that!!! Major stuff.

Thanks for sharing.

I just hope it's all wrapped up by Sept 2015. I assume no timing has been given?

Dan

The timeline that has been announced is "end of 2015".

Can you usually get a room discount in Sept for DLH?

We are doing a split stay between Poly and AKL.

Unless a great deal is available we will be skipping 2015. DW said she isn't going back due to health issues and just plain disinterest. DD and I will wait a couple years before returning.
