dbf and i are heading out next month to the west coast to attend a wedding in San Diego.
so we were thinking about taking a quick jaunt out to Vegas while we're at it.

the thing is we're short on time (and we also want to visit DL) so we can only do the following:

Day 1 ......after a day at San Diego Zoo, hop on a evening flight to Vegas

Night 1 ....stay somewhere on the Strip (Venetian? heh)

Day 2 ......full day in Vegas to Casino/Resort hop and gorge on buffets (maybe see O or Mystere)

Night 2 ....second night at the Venetian

Day 3 ......breakfast, check-out, hop on an early flight to Disneyland!

so, essentially w/ 2 nights, we'd only have 1 full day.
depending on how late we head over to Vegas from San Diego, we might be able to catch an evening show on Night#1 also.

dbf is a bit apprehensive about this idea, 'cause he knows how i have a tendency to go all commando and try to squeeze too much in on our vacations.

but, i don't know... it just seems so convenient, and so cheap ($29 one-way on Jetblue) to hop over to Vegas from SoCal. we've never been to Vegas before, and have always wanted to go.
we don't really drink or gamble, but from what i've heard: if you love Disney, you'll love Vegas too. so i figured maybe we should go for 2 nights. i'm sure we'll go back again at a later time.

what do you think?
is 2 nights too short a trip?
should we just skip Vegas this time, and go later when we have time to plan an exclusive longer Vegas vacation?

Yes and no... because so much is 24 hours it's not like you just have "a day"... you've got around 36 hours to do stuff! It really is such a fun place you won't even want to sleep much anyway! Plus if you don't plan on gambling, it will probably be enough time for you.

I think two nights is just about right. I find that if I'm in Vegas for much longer than that I get tired of of the phoniness and glitz. But two night is just perfect to keep my mind in a state of suspended reality so I can have a blast!!!

Some tips I have. Whichever hotel you decide to stay in, really check it out. Most of the large resorts now are really fabulous with the amount of amenities and activites thay offer. Don't spend too much time casino hopping. After the fourth or fifth one, they all start to look alike and it get tiring. Some that are worth seeing:

Venetian
Mirage
Ceasars Palace
Paris
Hard Rock (only if you really want to, it's quite a ways off the strip)
Bellagio (the fountains are a must, the casino is really just more of the same)
Mandalay Bay

As far as hotels, my absolute favorite is the Mirage. It's a little less expensive than some of the newer resorts, and the pool is not to be believed!!! Second fav. is the Bellagio, I love the fountains! Mt third is the Venetian, absolulty the biggest hotel room I've ever stayed in in my life.

Let me know if you need any other info. I'm alsomst as obsessed with Vegas as I am with Disney!

LOL, I was going to say it sounded too long!:p Can you tell Vegas is not my favorite place?;)

It is plenty of time to get some of the flavor of Vegas but not enough time to "see it all." Pick a couple things you really want to see, and then enjoy that you can pick up some gambling in bits and pieces. If you are planning to head to DL the next day you probably don't want to do the party all night thing! We've done plenty of trips that started on Friday night and ended Sunday around noon and we never felt shortchanged.

I enjoy Vegas, but 2 days is about right for me. By the third day, I'm ready to leave.

thanks for the replies, everyone!

sounds like 2 nights will be okay then. we definitely don't plan to "see it all"... that would be crazy, heh. we'll probably go back again in the future.
now... to convince dbf that it's a good idea... :p

btw, Melissa, thanks for the info on the hotels/casinos.
i'll send you a PM when i think of other Vegas questions.
we could use some San Diego advice too! :)
