Is 10x Optical Zoom Enough On Camcorder?

Trying to decide on new camcorder want:
built in lens cover
true 16:9 widescreen
Easy button-not interested in a lot of manual controls
Decent Low Light
Don't care about stills
Price under $600.

Looking at Canon Elura 100 with optical zoom of 20X or Sony HC90 with optical zoom of 10X. Old camcorder had 16X zoom-will the 10X be enough?

Any other suggestions? I am going in 3 weeks to DW.

We just bought the Elura 100 and though DH is the camcorder guy, I would not want just 10x

I love the Elura...DH looked long and hard as to what he wanted. I hope you get better responses than mine...
