Is 10 days too long for a vacation with an infant?

We've been to WDW before but with DD who was 9 at the time. We're trying to plan a trip for October so we can visit Food & Wine for the first time. Is 10 days going to be too long with an infant joining our group? We may have an infant with us at that time. (We're on an adoption waiting list so it MAY or MAY NOT happen by then)

We're split in our house.

I think that 10 days would be nice because that way we won't worry about missing things because we've come home for naps or that we're switching off on rides.

My mom says that in her experience, it's hard to travel with an infant and that since it's a new place, they can be harder to make comfortable and because of that, you spend more time at night trying to be sure that they are quiet for the rest of the guests.

I guess I should go over to the DVC board and see how soundproof the AKV rooms are

We always vacation for at least a week b/c we see my parents then and to make it worth it we have to be gone at least that long. We only did 4 days in Orlando in Sept w/ our kids, 4, 2, and 10 mos then and it was fine. Ilana did great and enjoyed the rides and seeing all the people and LOVED the characters and she slept in her stroller when she needed to and we had bottles and formula for her etc. It wasn't a problem at all and we knew we could always just go back to the resort if we needed to. She left about 9 w/ my mom and grandma while the rest of us stayed w/ the boys at the park for another 1.5hrs or so.

Well, depending on the age, travelling with an infant isd actually easier. We took DS to Disney for his first trip at 4 months. He slept most of the time and gazed at all the pretty lights when he was awake.

It all depends on you and the baby and you expectations. WDW has a few family care centres that are good respite from the busy parks. Make sure you know where they are and plan accordinly for naps, mid day breaks etc.

We did 10 days in February with DD (then 6) and DS (then 4.) I'll most likely never go that long again. The kids were good the entire trip an we had a wonderful time, BUT we were all sooooo ready to come home and soooo sick of Disney food. It WAS awesome to get to do so many extras and never have to rush around from place to place. We did 8 days in January '06 and that was a good trip length for us. Ten days really was too much of a good thing for our family. If the baby is really young, it probably wouldn't make much difference how many days. We took DD for the first time at 17 months (only for 4 days) and she had a hard time sleeping in the hotel and ate ONLY ketchup the entire time.

Thanks. We just booked our vacation. We are going October 5 through the 17th. Since we are going the DVC route, I hope to avoid getting to the point where we don't like Disney food.

As something special for our DD who will be 11, her grandma and I will be taking her on a 3-day Disney Cruise starting on the 9th leaving my husband and dad behind.

We don't know what will happen with the adoption process. We've talked with our worker and told her that we were taking this vacation and she's okay with the plans. I wonder if travel insurance would cover something like we couldn't go because there is a court date right smack dab in the middle of the vacation.

That is almost exactly what we did this past fall. We went for 10 days with our two older kids and our baby, who was 10 months at the time. I really thought it worked out fine! Our *ONLY* issue with him was he went on a nursing strike and wouldn't sleep in the hotel at night. Ugh. So we had some rough nights, but for the most part it was a great trip.

He slept in the stroller during the day when we were walking around in the parks. My dh took the big kids on some rides while I stayed with the baby and then we swapped on other rides.

We really enjoyed the food and wine fest!

The one thing I absolutely would not do is plan around "if". I went through a few years of infertility, not to get too personal, and now have three little ones. During that time, I cancelled a lot of things "just in case" I was pregnant or had a newborn. Looking back on those three years, I wish I'd just lived my life the way most people do and not worried about it.

We just took our five year old and our ten month old twins. The twins did really well, but I think a younger baby would do even better. They are, to quote a friend, incredibly portable at that age. I saw a lot of new moms with babies in slings and they seemed quite comfortable. The only problem we personally encountered was that all three kids shared a room and at least one baby was keeping the other two up. The baby care stations were great and had really friendly staff.

We did 10 days with DD who at the time was 6 mo. She did great! much better than her two brothers. No complaining and arguing from her. I agree with PP that babies are icrediably portable. We brought a stroller and front baby pack and it was very easy to tote her along, she just went with the flow. At night, we had a crib but she kept hitting her head on the rails ( no bumper pads) and then she would wake up and cry so after a couple of night of that we just let her sleep with us instead. Which btw didn't have any affect on where she slept after we got back home.

I don't think so if you do it right and don't overdo it. More days might actually be better so you can do it relaxed. My little one was actually better behaved on the trip than she is at home. There was so much for her to do an look at that she didn't have time to get bored/fussy. It was great!
