Yesterday I had 3 steroid injections for bursitis and today I am SO dang irritable. UGH! I HATE this part of it. I know part of it is from not getting enough sleep last night. The meds had me awake even though my body wanted to sleep. Getting 3 shots at once just sent my body into overdrive. But I needed all 3. My doctor is 30 minutes away and we leave next week for vacation. So I need the medicine to start working it's magic by then and for the soreness from the shots to wear off by then.

How do you deal with the irritability? Is there anything you can do? Usually I get irritable when I do the Prednisone pack. My poor husband is so great putting up with me. He didn't get mad when I snapped at him earlier. Poor guy. He understands it is because of the meds and probably the pain.

We have his family & my mother coming over for lunch tomorrow. That's going to be stressful. I don't need to be so ill then.

Thanks for letting me vent.

I'm sorry tha you are haivng to deal with this. My son has to do this every now ans then when his asthma gets real bad and he is a major grouch ( and he's only 5) when he has to have the drug. Sometimes limiting his caffiene ( like chocolate in his case) help a little bit and trying to nap helps too. For the soreness we will put ice packs on his legs for 15 mins on and then 20 off for an hour or so through out the day for about 3 days. I hope that you feel better by your trip and that you have a great time.

In our house we call prednisone and its likes the "fat and witchy drugs"....it can make me gain weight and make me very very cranky.

With me though, prednisone spikes my blood sugar. While on it IV my blood sugar has peaked at 200. When im on it orally it usually only goes up to about 110-120 (my blood sugar is abround 85 normally). We learned that this is why it makes me so irritable.

Is it possible that after you get the shots it is causing a spike in your blood sugar?

I hate those steroid shots!!! I had to have some when I was on maternity bedrest. Sure, shoot me up with steroids, then tell me I have to stay in bed???? Thinking back on it, I was cranky too, but I just blamed it on being bored after a month in bed.

My mom used to get shots for her bursitis too. I'm thinking back now to try to remember if she became a crank then - most likely she did, but I was a teenager then so I thought she was always a crank! :rolleyes1

Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks everyone! I'm not sure about the sugar. Thankfully my sugar is normal so I don't check it. Too bad I didn't see this earlier or I could have checked it when the in-laws were over.

Thankfully I'm not so sore anymore. But I still get real irritable from time to time. **sigh**

I am so, so sorry! I have an auto immune arthritis and I SO know where you're coming from!

The things that help me cope the best are hot showers with my favorite scented bath gels, and my ipod on shuffle setting (with some pretty good speakers - not putting the ipod in the shower, LOL!). This kind of puts me in a zen state. The rest of the family by that point pretty much knows to stay out of my way - and they all have a vested interest in getting me calmed back down!

I am diabetic, and it does play havoc with my blood sugar. This is going to sound really crazy, but if you feel a stressed out moment coming on, and can't find your happy place, could you maybe try munching on some steamed shrimp? Well, any shrimp as long as it doesn't have batter or other carbs on it. For some really strange reason, I found out once when pregnant that shrimp brings my blood sugar back down to normal - no idea why (one doctor thought it was the iodine), but it works for me.

Anyway, good luck tomorrow - I'm sending you good vibes and a gentle hug, and hoping all goes well. I totally empathize and wish you all the best! Oh, and hope the bursitis gets better, too!

Thank you Momelie! Thankfully my spells haven't lasted too long. We had our Christmas celebration at my sister's house tonight because they are calling for us to get freezing rain tonight and tomorrow. My sister was afraid it would be too bad tomorrow and she didn't want to wait until after Christmas.

Anyway, I snapped twice at my nephews when they were being major pains in the rear. :headache: Aunt Chell doesn't usually fuss at them like that. But they know I love them and they didn't get upset with me, especially because Momma came along right behind me fussing at them over the same thing and telling them that they needed to listen to me. ;)

My knees are feeling better but my shoulder is still hurting. I think I've used it too much. Thankfully on this keyboard at home I barely have to move my hand or arm to type. We bought an ergonomic keyboard last month & it is wonderful!
