Does anyone take over 100% of the required daily amount?
 
I was supposed to while I was pregnant, but I didn't. I figured that I got enough iron in my diet, and my hemoglobin was never low.

If you're looking for ways to boost your iron count, try taking and eating iron with foods rich in vitamin C and no dairy.
 
I purposely don't take "Women's One A Day" because I don't want an iron supplement. My iron levels (hemoglobin, hematocrit, ferritin, etc.) are always high normal and that is thought to increase the risk of heart disease (i.e. women are protected until menopause because of their iron losses).

I don't take any vitamins/minerals above the RDA unless recommended by my doctor.
 

I am right now, my multy vit. has some in it and then I take another supplement. My Dr wanted my to take 2 supplements! I think my system would rebel. I'm pregnant and anemic. (sp)
 
When I was very anemic, I was taking way more than the 100% RDA in order to try to get my levels back to where they should be for someone who is living and breathing. I can't honestly remember how much I was taking percentagewise, but I took more than one supplement pill a day - I think I was up to three pills for a while.

Are you asking because you are considering taking more? If there is not medical reason (and monitoring), I wouldn't suggest that anyone do it. I was having blood tests done every three weeks to monitor my levels and to determine when it was OK to back off and take less.
 
I was slightly anemic and was told to take one of the over the counter iron pills. Now, most of the time, a daily vitamin is good enough.
