IRMA - Castaway Cay

Probably.

But no one will know for sure until Irma has passed and an assessment can be made.

It got hit pretty hard last year by the hurricane too and it made it through

So I was thinking that perhaps DC might route some future cruises to Bermuda instead of the Eastern - but if you look at Jose's path Bermuda might get hit - good grief!!

Let me look into my crystal ball and let you know. I'll also tell you the winning lottery numbers for next week. o_O

I know everyone loves CC as much as I do, but they have taken everyone off the island to safety. We need to worry about the islands that are inhabited with humans right now.......
I'm in Ft. Lauderdale waiting for our almost certain hit.

My husband and I were wondering about the folks on the island. He thought they might hunker down and ride it through but I was pretty sure they'd evacuate them. Glad they've been taken to safety!

I read that the Dream had picked up most of them, but left a few to close everything else up and they went back and got them yesterday.
Glad they are all off the island and safely at sea.

This storm is huge. Hurricane force winds 90-100 miles out from the eye/center in all directions. Wherever the eye crosses will be catastrophic but so will all the areas in every direction away from the eye. I live on Long Island, NY. We are still experiencing problems due to Sandy five years after it hit and that storm 'came ashore' in New Jersey.
We were on the Magic in 2004 after storms damaged CC. CC was closed to cruises for 4-6 weeks. We were the first cruise that went to CC after the storms. They apologized for the conditions but except for obviously damaged vegetation they had done a great job getting it up and ready for guests. I remember staying in Cocoa Beach the night before our cruise (which was the first DCL cruise out of PC after it was closed for a number of weeks). We were staying with a large number of FEMA staff. I personally thanked each one that I met as well as the hotel staff, car rental staff etc. A gentleman at the car rental counter thanked us for coming and supporting the recovery by visiting.
I just can't imagine the devastation this storm will inflict everywhere.

My family were on the Dream that returned to CC to pick up the cast members. We were told that we were picking up the 150 left on the island and that those that were still on the island were locals who would be shuttled via boat to their own islands.

I was curious about this thread. My family's 1st DCL will be on the Wonder in Dec going out of Galveston. I was first watching Harvey. Now I'm watching Irma for the ports of CC, Nassau and Key West.
Poor Key West :(
So sorry for those affected by this devastation. I know I have a first world problem worrying about a cruise. Stay safe Floridians.

CC is such that even if a major hurricane made a direct hit, they have resources that would have it back in service pretty quickly. The bigger problems will be for places like Key West and the Gulf coast of FL. There's a lot of low lying communities in those areas.

I understand. We were on a January cruise out of Galveston that had that same itinerary. Unfortunately, due to fog in Galveston, we missed Key West. We thought it wasn't a huge deal as we'd be able to go back at a later date. Now I really feel for those people and am disappointed once again that we missed that port. Sure hoping that they recover from this hit (and it will be a hit) pretty quickly. The people there depend on tourism. They need people to come back and visit so they can have the money to rebuild.

Any update on any of the popular ports? The radar looks like Nassau is still getting wind and rain. The Jose behind it...
