It's well documented on these boards that I tend to lean towards the private owner route on the basis that it's cheaper, you get to choose the exact home and it's not necessarily any more risky than booking through an MC. As I've said many times before, I ask lots of questions either way. I suppose it's no different from buying any other service, or employing a trader to work in my home - I assess what's important to me, take sensible precautions and then go with what feels right. You can't totally elimate risk.
Of course, I realise I've sparked the usual debate. Keep it friendly!
