Iraq's respons to shuttle crash

I don't know the source for this, but I read a post on another board with countries reactions to the crash. This is what was posted as Iraq's response:

We are happy the Columbia broke up. God is punishing the US for its incursion into Iraq! This is God's revenge for the Israeli bombing of our Nuclear Reactor a few years ago.

If it is true, well, how can you reason or expect peace with a country like this.

Then how does that explain all the garbage going on in their country?

Is GOD punishing them, also?

Let's see...bombings, killings, rape, murder....they have accidents as well.

God does not cause these things.

That's part of the problem, you can't. I guess in thier eyes then it is Gods' will, not ours, that their Army be once again turned into a smoldering pile of scrap metal.

It just reminds me how grateful I am to know the truth - that God doesn't do this and that He loves each and every one of us, even those idiots that say such things.

If this is God's revenge on us, God isn't doing a very good job. Don't you think if an all powerful deity was really going to have his/her revenge, there'd be more damage?

I had also read else where that the "People of Iraq" are happy with the tragedy. I have to wonder which people of Iraq they might be? Are these the women of Iraq who have been raped and terrorized by the military? Are these the children of Iraq who have been tortured so that their parents will comply with the "leader" of the country? Are these the men, women and children who barely survive day to day? Or, possibly, could these be the people who have the power, who terrorize their own neighbors? Some how I don't think "the people" of Iraq really get their own say.

I too find the quotes that God somehow caused the Columbia disaster out of retribution for what the US has done to Iraq offensive and, considering we haven't done anything yet, especially ignorant. . .


But considering that some American yahoos like Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell said basically the same thing after 9/11, I personally don't feel like this is some kind of "proof" declaring war on Iraq is the only way to deal with them. . . (I think there are other more valid reasons for that, and they have to do with Saddam and the officials of Iraq, not the people in general. . . )

I also have to wonder. . if an earthquake struck Iraq tomorrow and caused massive death and destruction, how many Americans would say basically the same thing they are? That somehow God was punishing them for their behavior?

I'd bet it'd take Falwell and Robertson about 5 minutes to start beating that drum. . .

Willy, I agree, you might find some folks in this country that would rejoice over a human tragedy like an earthquake. But I'd venture to guess that they'd be a very tiny minority, a handful.

And the biggest difference between US and THEM is that the statements made by OUR goverment would be to offer comfort and aid.

I guess my problem with that article is that the author took a couple random quotes and extrapulated it into the claim all of Iraq feels that way. . . surely some, if not many people there feel it was a horrible accident and are saddened by it. . .

And yeah, I'm sure there would likely be a small minority here who would be happy and rejoice if disaster struck Iraq, but I feel like there would be a more significant number of people who would feel sadness about it but also feel like it was some sort of cosmic punishment for Iraq's behavior. . . my point being that while I find that kind of thinking offensive and ridiculous, it certainly isn't something unique to foreign countries.
