Ipod vs. DJ

I can't decide whether to save money by using the ipod, or just book a DJ, what do you guys think? I like the idea of the ipod as I can choose ALL of my own music, but I'm worried about how loud it will be? I really want lots of dancing. And can I hire a technician or something to run it?

From what I heard you have to pay to have an ipod set up, so why not foot the extra money and just get a DJ? Then, you will have someone to take care of all the music, judge the crowd, and MC the event--first dance, cake cutting, etc. My fiance is very big on music and is very particular on what music is played at our reception so, we made sure we hired a DJ where we can choose all our own music. If he doesn't have a song we want, he'll get it for us.

When you do the iPod setup you get the same sound equipment a DJ brings - it will be just as loud as having a DJ would be. :thumbsup2

DJ prices start at $1,500 for four hours. iPod prices start at $250 for unlimited use during the reception. Even if you hire a sound tech to run the iPod, it will probably cost less than a DJ. However, this is better when you just want music on in the background, since a sound tech is not trained the same as a DJ.

As BeachPrincess said, a DJ will be able to gauge the feel of the crown and select songs based on that. An iPod playlist is set in stone.

If dancing is a big deal for your group and you don't want to have to perfectly calibrate a playlist that you hope will work, I'd say get the DJ.

I've been quoted $450 for the ipod in the Whitehall room which is alot less than a DJ. I like the idea of having all the equipment a DJ uses so it is loud. You see, I don't really mind having the music set in stone, as me and df will have made the playlist. I think I may go with the ipod, and see how much a technician is, any ideas?

To have a sound system with a tech at Epcot cost us more than $900 after taxes and fees, but I dunno how much of that was sound system and how much was technician! :cutie: Plus, in-park locations are always more spendy than resort locations. But I think you can bank on several hundred dollars for a tech....
