my son got me an ipod touch on black friday. I am a little ignorent on these hi tech devices and I don't want to look that dumb to my son. so here's my question: i am looking for something that I can surf the web (in wifi spots), play games like angry birds and text for free. I looked on the apple website but I am still a little confused. is that what an ipod touch can do. would I be able to text anyone who has texting for free as long as I am in a wifi area. Can you surf the web? I don't really take pictures or download music but can you somehow download music to the touch if it is a cd? Any guidance would be appreciated.

You need to download and install (free) iTunes. With iTunes you'll be able to import and then transfer all of your music from CDs, purchase new music and apps. The iPod can text, you'll need to download an app for it. You can also purchase angry birds (the free version only has a few levels) and other games. Surfing the web is possible, but not that great on the itouch's and mobile phones. A lot of stores have their own mobile website that makes it easier, but compressing everything into that small screen is usually what makes it cumbersome.

Just remember to periodically "kill" your apps or your iTouch will seem to slow down. To do this push the home key (the button on the bottom with the square) twice quickly. This will open a small window at the bottom that shows all your recently used apps. touch and hold one of them until it starts to wiggle and a red minus sign appears. start clicking all the minus signs until the apps are all gone. Then push the home key again.

Once you register your iTouch you'll get an email fromn Apple with a tutorial and some other helpful hints.

My ds's have an itouch, and they use it for texting (I think it's called textfree) and apps mostly. You will need to set up an itunes account. The games work anywhere once they are synced to your ipod, the texting back and forth only works where wifi is available. You can use it for websurfing, but it's not that great, the screen is really small. For music, you can put your cd's into your itunes account and sync it, very simple.
