IPOD Touch WIFI Help.....Heeelllpppp LOL

Good morning everyone. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday!!!

We got our DD17 an Ipod Touch for Christmas and we can't get it to connect to our wireless internet connection. Anyone else have this problem, and if so how did you get it to connect? We entered the password just fine and it says we are connected (the little icon), but when we go to connect Safari says it can't connect because there is no internet connection. . I called our ISP this morning and they were NO HELP. They said...and sadly I am not exaggerating...that if it has connected their job is done and I should call Apple. Grrrrr lol.

Please if someone can help us please respond. I tried all the other tips online that I found (apparently common) with no luck. We all know the best place to get something resolved is on the DIS.

Do you have the option to save the password (key) when you entered it?

What do you see when you go back to settings/wi-fi? Is wi-fi on? What does it say under "choose a network?"

I'm not sure what my son did but he was able to do it easily.

Once he wakes up, I can ask him.

It didn't give me an option to save the password. I typed it in (my regular old password for the router..still default lol) then I clicked "join"

Yep, Wi-FI is on
Just the one choice (my house) "CNIP1"

I noticed the IP address starts with a 169 and not 192 like my desktop. Does that matter?

I recall that when I first attached my Mac computer to our wireless router, I had to put a dollar sign ($) in as the first "letter" of the password. I think my daughter had to do the same thing for her iTouch.

I had to change my router encryption type for my iphone to work.

There are two types - WPA and WEP encryption. I honestly don't remember which one worked and which one didn't.

I had to totally reinstall my router (after resetting it in the back with a paper clip). That put it to the default admin password. I reinstalled it and changed the type of encryption. I had to put the new password in my laptops in addition to the iphone. But it then worked.

So I am guessing that one of those encryption types is not supported by iphone. And I do have the newest iphone.

I can't remember for sure because it was a year ago that we set mine up, but if you are running a secured WiFi connection (and you should be) you may have to tell the router about the Ipod as well.
