iPod Touch volume question

For some reason, the volume on my ipod touch is really really high. I'm not sure if it's the new headphones I just bought (skullcandy) or if the new update to the ipod touch did it, but either way, it's really loud. Right now, I have it set to as low as I can get it to go on the touch screen (I have the first generation without the external volume controls) and it's still too loud. It used to be fine. Now, it's blasting in my ears. I don't have the old headphones to check if it is the headphones, but is anyone else's ipod really loud?

I know there's the option to reset the ipod touch, but I had to pay $10 to upgrade it to get the accelerometer on it, so I'm afraid if I reset it, I'll lose that money. Can anyone help me?

My son had the same thing happen when he first got his Skullcandy earbuds. I tried changing the volume limit on the ipod and that didn't do anything. Finally we unplugged the earbuds and plugged them back in and that fixed it. We think they just weren't plugged in all the way and that was part of the problem, but I don't know for sure. It hasn't happened since the first time he plugged them in.

I got Skullcandy earbuds the same day and mine didn't have any problem. Mine is a first gen touch and his is a second gen, but I have no idea if that has anything to do with it or not.

Good luck - I hope you get it figured out.

I have the earbuds also, it's ridiculous how loud it is. I've tried unplugging them and putting them back, that didn't do anything. It's really frustrating because when I study, I like to have the music on a soft volume, but with these earbuds, I can't do that. The earbuds are great though, I use them for my computer too, and the sound is so clear, not bad for a pair of $10 headphones. If only this dang ipod would work properly. The best solution I've come up with is not to put them all the way into my ear, but this doesn't work in the library when it's supposed to be silent. I'm not sure if it's worth going to the Apple store for help, or if they'll say they're not responsible because I'm not using their headphones. It's less than a year old though, and the problem all of a sudden just came on.
