So, I won a really cool itouch from this AWESOME podcast that I listen to, and I'm completely bummed. They forgot to include the idiot instructions. Although even if it came with them, I probably wouldn't read them. I refuse to read instruction manuals. I love it when you get something and they tell you to read the manual front to back before using. Why????

Anyway, I do LOVE my itouch. But have a couple questions. First of all, am I only going to be able to get online at home? Any time I've been away from home and try to get online, it asks me for a password. I thought about asking my dentist for his password, but decided it against.

Second, I can't get my email connected. I use MSN. Can someone please help???

ok....let me state up front that I dont have an iTouch....I ihave the iPhone, but it's my understanding that in order to get online, you will need to find a wifi connection.

The iPhone has the Edge network or the 3G network but the iTouch does not have that capability.

If you are being asked for a password, then the wifi system you are trying to use is protected and not open to the public.

You will need to find a free wifi location (or a paid one if you are willing to pay).

The Apple site has a page devoted to the iTouch. It's located here:

http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/

I'm sure you will find a grea deal of information there.

Just to add to what Kevin has said, which pretty much covers it anyway, :)

You need a wifi connection to get on the internet, and therefore email, although i dont think the iTouch (at least iphone isnt) is compatible with Microsoft emails address - i had to create a googlemail one and either have stuff forwarded to it and have started using it as my main email address now! (yahoo also works, as well as some others).

Also, if the iPhone is anything to go by, you get no instruction manual as such anyway, just a little thing on getting it started, then a link to the online manual at apple :)

Hope you enjoy your iTouch, my iPhone is the first Apple product i've owned, and i love it :)

:goodvibes

I have a iTouch and I love it as well!

Mine did not come with extensive instructions and I had to go online to get the details instructions.

For what its worth, I also have a email account that ends with msn.com and I just pull up the hotmail web page and log in to my account to check my email. That is only when you are able to use wifi! I find lots of hotspots at the mall, starbucks, even our church LOL!

Not wanting to be petty, but the device is not called an iTouch. It's an iPod Touch.

You can use your Touch to connect to MSN. How will depend on whether you check email via the web or with a "client" like Outlook. The Touch can check mail both ways. If you want to use the Mail icon on the Touch, you will have to get the data to set up the Touch. You need to know whether your email account at MSN is a POP3 or IMAP account (that's for incoming mail) and your outgoing mail will be SMTP. Both incoming and outgoing have "ports" to be entered. Ports are numbers. POP3 usually uses port 110, IMAP typically uses port 143 and SMTP normally uses 25 but you have to check with MSN since these can vary from ISP to ISP.

Then you have to know your login name and password and whether your outgoing mail uses authentication.

Yes, setting up mail is a little overwhelming. That's why it's usually much easier to check your mail online via the web using the Safari web browser.

Thanks for all the replies. I've decided to bight the bullet and read the instructions. I know they didn't come with it. Even if they had, I probably wouldn't have read them. That was my sarcasm. I really need a warning on my posts that sarcasm might be inside.

One more question, when I connect to the internet, the display size is really small. Sometimes I can make it bigger and sometimes I can't. How do you make the font bigger?

I tap the screen... if it does not do it i just keep tapping! LOL! I love my Itouch.... I mean iPod Touch! ( I learned something new! ):rotfl2:

you can pinch and spread your fingers on the screen to make things larger and smaller... two fingers together... now press them to the screen... and spread.

I'd ask the Dentist for the password, I ask in places all the time for a password to get online, it is rare that people seem to mind.

just keep fumbleing around to figure it out and hollar out questions, they are in fact a fun toy.

I have had my ipod touch for about a month now and love it, how ever the instruction book needs work.

I have an iTouch as well. I love it, but mostly just use it for music. I do work out with it, but it is pretty heavy on my arm :)

I figured out the pinch and spread thing with a game, mahjong, that I downloaded. Those were the "rules", and I wondered if that worked for everything.

Thanks! I'm really enjoying playing around with it.

I love my iTouch! Most places will have secure WiFi so you won't be able to use them. Whataburger, Starbucks & Panera Bread tend to have free WiFi. The setting up for email access can be a little confusing if you aren't used to doing that. I have mine set up to check my Mediacom email if I don't feel like turning on my computer. There a ton of free little game apps that you can add to the iTouch - like 'Bubblewrap' which is just like popping a sheet of bubblewrap over and over and over. ::yes::

It is also great for watching videos at work or while on conference calls or in a doctor's office or on interstate when it has become a parking lot to a wreck. :)
