IPod Touch Instead of Smart Phone

After doing research and figuring out what will be best. I am actually getting an IPhone . I can get one free by renewing my cell contract. We don't need new phones and we have several back ups in case one of our phones breaks, so I'm not worried about needing the ability to get a cheap/free phone in the future. I don't actually have to attach it to my account, so I can avoid the data packages charges. DH is excited because he will now have a small device of his own to surf the web, play games, use as a music player, ect

If DH decides that he doesn't like it or use it enough, we can sell it after Disney. Amazon is offering about $300 in credit for Iphones, so my free phone may end up making me money (not that I actually think DH is going to give it up).

Does anyone know of any other devices other than an IPod which would serve the same purpose? I am finding that the IPod Touch 4th generation is $120+ even used.

Yes. Last Christmas (Black Friday actually) I got my 16 yo dd a Samsung galaxy player from Best Buy for $99. It is exactly like an ipod except it's an android operating system and apps, and it actually had more memory than the ipod touch 4th. She also had a texting app on it... aaand...that's why she doesn't have it anymore. Long story.
