The attorneys I work for gifted me with a $200 Amazon gift card for my birthday (would have preferred a Disney gift card, but a gift is a gift :) ). Anyhow was considering an Ipod Touch - 4th generation.

I download music from Itunes all the time, but have never used any type of Ipod device.

If you have one and love it, please let me know why and all the "great" things you can do with it besides listen to music and podcasts. :)

Thanks! :thumbsup2

I just got the 3rd Generation and I love it. It was an early Christmas Present from DH and I had heard about the features of the new one and they didn't interest me. I don't listen to podcasts, but I do love iTunes, because I can buy the music I want without having to buy the whole CD.

I have alot of apps. I have access to my bank info, Target, Best Buy, WDW apps, news, and Netflix, which I am loving. I now also have a place for all of my Disney pictures. I also bought the WDW episode of Modern Marvels and I can download some of my Blu-rays to watch on our drive to WDW.

It is very user friendly and really easy for someone who is technically challenged.

I have an ipod touch (don't know which generation) and I love it. I use it for music, the calendar (got rid of my planner - all my appointments are on this now) tip calculator app, flashlight app (don't laugh, I have used it!) "Days until" app (great for counting down to WDW!) and many others. My primary uses though are music, calendar/organizer, and games.

I love my ipod touch!! Especially all the apps/games and music I have on it! Mine is a gen 1 so the one problem I have is that the software doesn't update anymore. And some of the apps need the new software :( Oh well, I'll upgrade some day... But for now, it's awesome!! Mine is a 16gb, the 8gb would have been too small for the stuff I have on it.

Let's just say that DH got MAJOR brownie points when he got me the iTouch (2nd gen, I think)

I live, eat & breathe with it! (seriously - since I use it to track stuff with my baby, it's usually the first thing I use in the AM, and the last thing I put down at night.)

I listen to it at work, and wherever I have access to a wifi connection, I do all sorts of stuff!

Here are my apps:
-WifiTrack (to find wifi hotspots)
-YNAB (the budgeting program - it's to use when you're not near your home pc)
- Facebook
- Weight Watchers app
- GroceryIQ (grocery list app)
- Locavore (finds local farmers markets & what's in season)
- JunoWallet (tracks my gift cards in my wallet)
- CardStar (tracks all those grocery & retail rewards cards, so I don't need to carry them)
- Weatherchannel
- Pandora (great app for finding new music that falls within your tastes)
- First aid
- Pet first aid
- Coupons
- Some recipie sites/apps (AllRecipes, UrbanSpoon, Recipezaar/Food.com)
- Some travel apps (southwest, kayak, AAA, undercover tourist WDW, TripIt)
- Some game apps (too many to mention)
- Some baby related apps (Total Baby, Smart Hands, Baby Piano, Flash Cards & Peek-A-Boo)
- Some websites I've bookmarked (the DIS, of course, and others)
- and some utility type apps, like the calculator, converter+, etc.

You'll love it!!

I am also considering purchasing the new itouch for a Christmas gift. How do you know if you should get the 8gb or the 32gb? Also, a pp mentioned netflix. How can you use netflix on your itouch? I have a dd who is 12. I have seen on the dis that some people buy reconditioned ipods as Christmas gifts. I would consider this for my younger dd. Where do you go to buy a reconditioned one? I went to apple.com and saw they have the classic ipod for $229. Why would you buy one of those over an itouch? I have a ds soon to be 18, a dd 12, and a ds 8 and I am trying to decide which type ipod to buy each.

There are all kinds of great apps. Just take a look around the iTunes app store. Also, the newest model of the iPod Touch records HD video, so that's fun!

I have a 1st generation touch as well. I didn't know the software couldn't be updated...that is a true bummer.

I don't even know why they make an 8g, because with what little I have on my 32g, I have almost 4g full. Actually, it only had about 29g usable space. Right now, I have 406 sings, 1 video, 1,640 photos, and 23 apps and have 25g available of the 29.3g usable, and that is only about half of my music. My cousin's daughter has a shuffle, I think and she says 8g is enough for her, but I understand it is just for music.

Yes, I have a Netflix acct and all I had to do was download the app and sign it with my acct sign-on ans was able to watch anything that was available. You, of course, do have to have wifi access to play it as with most of the apps. It streams just like the Wii and computer.

I don't know anything about the Classic iPod, this is my first one ever. I do know you can be re-durbished ones on the Apple website. I got mine brand new at Best Buy, because I like having geek Squad and they also applied my screen protector and I get rewards points. I also got a great deal on a bundle package with a case, high quality ear-buds (love the ones that come with it, but they hurt my ears), and the wall/auto charger.

The Apple website has a wealth of information, that is how I finally decided on which one I wanted.

I'm like everyone else. I have a 32gb iTouch and I LOVE it. I use it to surf the net (as long as the site's not too intensive or requires Flash), check my email, play games, listen to music, and occasionally watch Netflix. I also get Southwest's Ding fares, game scores from ESPN, and updates from my Twitter account. I have three different recipe apps, a period tracker, and bookmarks to local public transit tracking systems. It comes in really handy.

Suzanne, my ds17 has the 8G Itouch that came out before this newest one. We have a netflix account. Do you think he could get netflix movies on his Itouch? He would love that!!!!!!!!! Dumb question- but can you only watch the netflix movies in your house?

Where do you go to buy a reconditioned one?

2nd Gen iTouch user here and I use it every single day. It wakes me up in the morning(in case we have a power outage) and I inevitably play a game or check e-mail just before dropping off to sleep each night. In between I use it for music, video, and podcasts. I have been using the weight loss app Lose It in conjunction with the Footsteps pedometer app to try and shed a few pounds. I'm also a big fan of the onboard calendar. Not to mention various games and Disney apps to pass time at the doctor's office.

But to your question, Linnylu. Google Refurb Ipod Touch and one of the first results should be a link to the Apple refurb site. Last I checked, the 8 gig were $150 and the 32 gig were about $230. Mine is an eight gigger, which I make do with through some creative content management(shuffling various videos/songs/apps on and off). If I had it to do over again (or when I upgrade) I would go with something beefier. Truth be told, I paid about $225 for my eight gig just about two years ago. Look at how far we've come. I'm not an Apple fanboy, but I sure do LOVE the Touch. :thumbsup2

Don't have an itouch, but I love my iphone and use the apps and stuff probably more than the actual phone!

My favorite apps are:

facebook
words with friends

and...

don't forget the disboards app, "eticket wdw" -- search for it in the apps store. I like it b/c it's an easy way to check the boards. Also has park information (that I haven't used yet but am looking forward to) and space for you to store travel info (flights, etc.)... You'll definitely want to download this one. :woohoo:

Sorry, another question! Will an 8G be enough for an 8 year old boy? I know it isn't enought for ds 17 and he says he can't update something or other that the 32 G has.

Also, does Apple have any kind of trade in program if ds wanted to trade his in and upgrade for the newest itouch?

I have a question about the I pod touch. My DS (13) wants to get one. If you download apps, etc on it do you pay a monthly fee like you do for your internet on your computer? If so how much does it usually run?

I know nothing about all this high tech stuff. I have a cell phone to just make phone call. So I'm a little :confused3

Thanks for the help.

I LOVE my touch, or should say, loved it...it got closed in a car door 2 weeks ago (i had the 2G)...I am impatiently waiting for my brand new 4G touch to arrive :cool1:...this one can take pics, do hd video, facetime...i use my touch for so much, facebook, music, games, and best of all, my ereader....i love reading on it at night when i go to bed, no lights needed....i say you can never regret a touch...

I recently got a 3rd gen, 8 gb. I had 2 reasons for buying it. I thought I might like an iphone but didn't want to pay the monthly internet fee, so this way I get the apps and wifi without having a monthly fee, and can keep my messaging phone.

The 2nd reason I got it was that I knew my kids would have it at least 75% of the time and wanted to still have access to my phone! LOL

I have a TON of games on it for my 7yo son, its very educational and fun. For myself its mostly what everyone else has mentioned, facebook, email, words with friends, alarm, grocery list, and cruise and disney fun stuff :)

I knew the 8gb wouldn't be big enough; the 16gb I got was from the refurbished Apple website. It has the same warranty (1 year) as a new one. They don't make a 16gb anymore in the new ipod touch. DD also has a 16gb, 2nd gen I think. One day it wouldn't turn on so we took it in the Apple store, the guy tried it, couldn't get it to do anything, went in the back and gave her a new one. It's probably also a refurb, but great service!!

I have a 1st generation touch as well. I didn't know the software couldn't be updated...that is a true bummer.

I know, there have been a couple apps that I couldn't download because of the SW version (OS, not iTunes).

2nd Gen iTouch user here and I use it every single day. Don't know what I would do without mine! Probably get more done around the house LOL! I have so many games, grocery apps, coupon apps, Bible apps, you name it, I probably have it. One of the games I LOVE to play is Whirly Word, another is Alphabetic; Boxterity is also fun. I think I got those for free. One good app to get is PandoraBox, it tells you every day what apps are free. Also love having Ding! And bank apps as well as RoboForm for the ipod.

Thanks for the help.

You only pay for the app, if it is not free. I haven't had any where you pay a monthly fee.

There are two kinds of apps, those that are free and those you buy. When you look under the apps it has tabs for free ones and I always look there first! I've only bought a couple (Is That Gluten Free? is my fave), but there are free apps for just about everything, including games. There are very few apps that you pay monthly for and really, with all the one that are free or you buy once (usually just a couple bucks) there's no need for monthly fees for any apps.

On my now. It took me months to decide I wanted one, so glad I got it. It's prolonging the life of my laptop. Makes at home web browsing a bit easier.

I got the 32gb. I have an 8gb nano and knew I wanted more memory. Even now I do regular file moving. I for years fell asleep with the TV on, now I use the touch since it does not require headphones.
