:surfweb: Good Morning All! I have an iPod nano and at times would love to hear my music in the house without things in my ear!!! I am debating getting speakers and can't make up my mind about what to buy. I'm looking at the Bose and the iPod HiFi.

I might want to take this unit outside as well. I see that the Bose is only 4.5 pounds and the iPod HiFi I think was about 14 lbs...big difference!!!
I think I like the solid look of the iPod HiFi better...I don't know!!!
Anyone have any insight on this???
TIA :thanks:

The Bose is pricey but it has excellent sound. If you are considering getting the Bose, get the Bose radio and you can run the Ipod through the accessory feature so you will have a radio and speakers.

If you have a home stereo, you can buy a cable that you hook up to your receiver to play your IPod through your existing stereo speakers. It's very easy to use, and I think the cost was $29.00.

I have the Bose Sound Dock and the sound quality (like everything by Bose) is excellent! I use it upstairs in our bedroom and also take it with me when traveling. Compared to the HiFi, it is much more portable - the HiFi is much heavier. But, the HiFi can also run on batteries and the Bose doesn't. So if you want to use it somewhere without an electrical outlet, you're better off with the HiFi.

I have the Altec IM 7. It was $200 at Best Buy(making it $150 cheaper than the Apple system). Runs on battery or electric, and sounds excellent. It is heavy but it's solid. :) If you can, listen to these units before you purchase.
You will find some may be better tailored to your taste than others(and in my case, a lot less expensive).

My boys have Shuffles and have discovered that computer speakers will play them! I know it's not fancy but they work. The speakers are from discarded computers - they just plug the speakers into the iPod, and they play! :goodvibes

I have the Bose speakers and love them, but they are a little pricey. :thumbsup2 My daughters both have JBL speakers. We bought them for Christmas at Costco (BJ's has them too) for about $100. They were much more in The Apple Store. It is round, sort of donut-shaped and has very good sound, and much smaller than the Bose. It could easily be packed in your suitcase and taken on a trip.

I bought a cable at Walmart for $5.00 that connects my iPod Nano to my stereo receiver. Sounds great (we have really good speakers)!

I have Bose speakers, and I LOVE them. The only drawback is that they don't run on battery, but that hasn't stopped me from using the dock everywhere. It's so light and easy, and the cord is SUPER long, so I have no problem running it from wherever I am to wherever I need to be. The sound is great. Even though it's pricey, I'd definitely recommend it - it's a great investment.

Wow! Thanks for all the info! I had no idea that you could buy a cable for $29 to hook up to your existing speakers!!!
Thanks!
