IPOD & older computer

I got an IPOD mini for my 14yo DD and a shuffle for my 11yo DD. I can't seem to figure out how to get my computer to work with these. I have an older computer (4yrs) and do not have USB 2.0. I can't get my computer to consistently work with these things. Both have worked for brief moments .

Right now I'm back to where my computer recognizes the Ipod as an extra drive but Itunes doesn't find it.

I've restored the computer and reloaded itunes, reloaded the ipods. Getting very frustrated! I have a RIO mp3 player and like it even more after messing with these things but they aren't the "IN" one to have

Any suggestions? Are these just a pain to work with if you don't have the latest & greatest computer?

I have install a USB port in the computer yet. If have a open bay in your computer you can get a PCI fireware USB card in the computer. That wil give few usb ports on your computer.

I my old computer did not come with one so I pop open the computer and install it your self.

USB 2.0 and FireWire are listed in the minimum requirements:

• Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4 or later, or Windows XP Home or Professional (with Windows Service Packs 2).
• iTunes 4.7 or later.
• Built-in, high-power USB 2.0 port or a high-power USB 2.0 card installed or computer with 6-pin FireWire port (using optional iPod Dock Connector to FireWire cable).

Yes, looks like I will have to get a 2.0 USB. Now I just have to figure out how to update the card.

Better get a combo-card with Firewire and USB 2.0 on it. Then you're save to go for some more years with your puter. I can highly recommend Belkin-cards. I bought mine at a Walmart in the US and it works great!!! None of my three iPods (I connect them via Firewire) eevr made problems. The same goes for all the USB.2.0 devices I have hooked up to teh computer.
