What's the difference between the two?
Where do you get the songs?
How much do they usually cost? (The songs)

Any recommendations for a good starter.

I'm very clueless about these kinda things :confused3 . My kids 5 & 10 think it's sooo funny.

Join the club! I have an iPod Nano and my kids have Sandisc MP3 players. I have mostly loaded CD's on to the iPods, and have only downloaded a couple of songs.

To be honest, it is pretty easy to load and run them. The directions are self-explanatory.

You will be fine!

You can transfer your own CDs? The whole thing or can you pick individual songs?
I feel sooo old fashioned right now

Either/or

You can transfer whole CDs, but I choose just to transfer the songs I like. I don't have any CDs where I like every song on it.

I only know iPods, so my experience with mp3 players has been wonderful and very easy. If you get an iPod, it comes with iTunes software (or actually, I don't think they sell them with it anymore, but it's easily downloadable). Once it's loaded, all you do is put your CD in the drive, and if you're connected to the internet at the time, iTunes will access the CDDB database and pull down the song and artist info for your CD. You can then select the individual checkboxes for the songs you want off of that CD, click "import disc," and voila! Your songs will be added to your iTunes library. :)

You can go to iTunes and get it all explained for you. http://www.apple.com/itunes/

Some people (I'm one of them) prefer the iPod and think it is a lot more handy than other players. Some people think the other players work just fine and that those buying iPods are snobs and fools for paying such a high price. You make the call. :)

If you get an iPod, I highly recommend The iPod Book: Doing Cool Stuff with the iPod and iTunes Store by Scott Kelby. Otherwise, you have to learn things out of an owners manual! :scared1: That book does one thing per page, with pictures and simple, easy instructions.

I have a Sandisk mp3 player. I got it for my 18th birthday. It holds up to 243 songs, which is plenty, in my opinion. (Ipods, some, can hold up to 7500 songs...that's a bit ridiculous, in my view. Who has the time to listen to that many songs? I barely listen to my 243!)

I recommend the SanDisk 1 GB.
