My DD is wanting an Ipod for Xmas. The one thing I haven't been able to find out yet is about the music on them. I know you can go online and pay for songs to have on it. What I want to know is if you can put songs on it from CD's you already own. I know many of the new CD's are set up so you can't copy them. She has many CD's already and I would hate to have to pay for them again just so she can have them on there.
Does anyone have any answers to help me out?

yes you can burn your own CDs into iTunes. CDs that are copywrite protected can also be used once you prove you own the CD (this is done digitally)

You should receive a cd with the ipod that installs the necessary software on your computer to make the two compatible. After the software is installed you should be able to load the songs onto the ipod with out a problem. Thus far I have not had any problems with "copying” cd's onto my ipod. Hope this helps you out some.

Thank you so much to both of you. I was so worried she wouldn't be able to put her music on it. Thanks for all the info!
