ipod classic....headphone jack does not work

Does anyone know of a round-about way to be able to still us the ipod, possibly with headphones.

I am thinking a docking station would allow the music to be heard but the headphones are a neccessity here with a large family.
Does any of the docking/speaker systems have a headphone jack?

It would not help as far as taking the ipod on trips, school, etc but at least it would make the ipod usable again.

The Apple store confirmed that the jack for headphones was no longer working and they could give a small credit towards a new ipod, however that is out of the question right now.

He is such a great kid and I just hate that he cannot use his ipod.

You could use the USB cable to connect it to a computer and use the headphone jack on the comuter. Not very portable, but would work sittting still.

The docking station (onn) that I have does not have a headphone jack. It was a cheap one $19.99 CAN and uses a regular plug to play the music or you can install 4AA batteries.

I was impressed with the quality of the small speakers at my mom's house (she got it for Christmas last year) that I asked my BIL where to get one. I think I got it at Wal-Mart. I use it in the converted garage which is now the main daycare room-I don't even need the iPod or the speakers on the highest to hear it on the other side of the room.

I would guess the size of it to be about 2"D x 8"H. I'd buy some good rechargable batteries and a charger for when he's not at home near a plug.

This sounds like it would do the trick. It plugs into the bottom of the ipod (where the cable you use to plug it into the computer goes), and you can plug the headphones into it. So this way, it would still be portable (and work!!) with just an extra cable.

I am guessing that it is no longer under the one year warranty? This is exactly what went on my daughters Ipod Touch but it was just days shy of the warranty expiry and we sent it in and they shipped her a new one within 2 weeks.

The same thing happened to my daughter's first iPod.

The first recommendation that the Apple Store tried was to use a can of air with a small stick and blow into the port. Sometimes it gets dirty/dusty and just needs to be blown out.

The Apple Store rep also said that port wears out from being plugged in & unplugged. The warranty had already expired, so my husband found a company online that fixed it. He mailed them the iPod and they fixed it for a flat fee, no matter what was wrong. I think it came out to around $75 or $80 to fix.

Just google ipod touch repair and you will find several companies that can fix it.

Fairytale Princess, that is exactly what the Apple store dude told us to get. But I have never been able to find one. Thanks so much.

I did get him a dock/alarm clock for Christmas. (Crossing my fingers that it will have the capability to use headphones).
