Hi sorry to bother you all, but I am about to start a new job and I am going to need a reliable mobile phone. Up until now I have always used everyone else's hand me down phones and have had an orange pay as you go sim card for as long as I can remember - can you tell I am not that into mobiles!!:goodvibes

Anyway, as I have to buy a phone, I thought I would get an iphone as at least then I can have something to play with.:goodvibes My question is, can I just buy an iphone off of Amazon and will I be able to just put my old/ancient orange pay as you go sim card in it and carry on as normal or is it more complicated than that??:confused3

I did try to google the answer but was too confused - so any help here would be greatly appreciated!!:thumbsup2

Many thanks:)

I have an iPhone 4 (best thing I own!) so can only speak of them and not the earlier models.

But it has a special shaped sim card to fit, so you would definitely need a new one if you get a 4.

With an iPhone, or any similar 'smart phone' you will also need a PAYG tariff that includes data with your top-up or you will find your credit goes down pretty quickly if you use it for browsing the internet, getting emails etc. Looking at the Orange plans it looks like 'Dolphin' is the one to go for.

thanks so much for your replies - sorry I didn't get back to you before, what with coming home from holiday on friday and starting a new job today its all been a bit hectic!!:goodvibes

David thanks so much for that link - thats been a great help!!!:thumbsup2

If you are going to buy a PAYG rather that CONTRACT iphone, I would suggest purchasing direct from an Apple store. These are unlocked, so that you can use a sim from any operator (O2, Orange, Voda etc)
Tesco (which uses O2 network) have good deal monthly rolling contract for sim only, on at the moment for £10 per month (500 mins including text & data ) HERE
You can also link this to your Tesco clubcard, to get points with each £10 monthly top up ;)
If you choose an iPhone 4 make sure to ask for a 'micro sim'. If you change your phone later, you can always put the sim into a small adaptor to bring it back to the normal sim size :goodvibes
