I'm thinking of getting an iPhone, but the free one that is offered doesn't have "Siri" on it. Is that something I could live without? I'm a grandmother!! We are heading to Disney with my DS, DIL, and 2 grandkids. I want to put relative Disney apps on the iPhone. I have an iPad 2 which I love, but it's too big to lug around the parks! Thanks for any info. Currently I just have a regular cell phone with a little keyboard on it.

Is it the 4? That's what my husband has and he loves it. I have the 4s, which has Siri, but I rarely use that feature anyway. Definitely not necessary.

In my opinion, Siri is way overrated. The feature looks great on a commercial, but it is not something I (or my friends) use on a regular basis.

I use Siri for only a few things - setting alarms and timers, mostly. It varies in accuracy for more complex tasks.

If I had to give up one feature of my iPhone, Siri is probably what I'd choose.

I have a 4S and have never once used Siri. You can easily live without Siri.

You can definitely go without Siri - though I do use it more than I expected to. I went with the $99 4S over the free 4 because it has a better camera, so you may want to consider that. So now I just take my phone around the parks - apps, camera, and ability to search for things (like menus!) all in one. I use it so darned much I had to invest in a backup battery pack, lol!

The one issue always brought up is that free phone was released in 2010 so its three year old technology, but if it works for you it should be ok.

One other thing is you may have trouble finding things like cases for it.

I'm a droid person myself.

If the free one is the Iphone 4 you can find cases at Five Below, Amazon, and/or Ebay! If it is the 3, try the same places.

More than Siri (totally don't need it), is that the camera is better in the 4s and the 5.
Cases are still extremely easy to buy for the 4 (4 and 4s have the same case), that should not be a problem.

I think I've only used Siri once just to try it out when I first got my phone, so I wouldn't worry about not having Siri if you like the free phone. I have the 5 and love it, but as PP said, the camera is terrible, so if you use your phone as your camera (I do not) you might actually be better off with an older model anyways.

How do you get the free phone? We are thinking of finally upgrading (have only ever had cheapy prepaids with NO apps!). I am just starting to look into this and would appreciate knowing more.

At least for Verizon its one of the options to upgrade to and its free since its 3 years old. What carrier are you on?

May even be free if you switch to verizon.

eta Just checked verizon, had to pay my bill anyway, the 4 is free with two year contract and the 4s is 99.99. Be aware that you also have to get a data plan which may be $30 a month per phone for 2 gigs, go over and pay a lot. though there are all kinds of plans out there with things like shared data minutes etc.

eta II for one iphone the best I could get was around $90 in monthly access fees 2 gig data unlimited talk and text. I think I'm grandfathered in to a cheap share 700 minutes unlimited text and only 1 smartphone with 5 phones total.
