For all you Iphone owners....tell me the pros, and cons of owning one? Apps., is it easy to learn, and use....? When you put the phone on speaker, is the volume loud?

I have an Iphone and honestly I really hate it, but that's me. I heard rave reviews on it before I got it and that prompted me to actually get it. But, now that I have it...I hate it. I thought I would love the touch screen but I don't because I have chubby fingers and texting on that thing stinks...I hit every letter I don't want to hit. I haven't had any problems with the phone itself yet...just can't stand the "keyboard" for texting and sending emails.

I do love that I can plug my IPHONE into my daughters Ihome device and charge it. It's awesome.

I, on the other hand, love my Iphone. If you are current texter on a non-QWERTY cellphone, you probably won't like the Iphone. However, if you aren't currently texting, you will probably like the Iphone pad. Iphone software 3.0 is going to allow horizontal keyboards (you turn the phone sideways and it gives you a bigger keyboard), but it is still somewhat small.

Apps and Itunes is not difficult to learn, IMO. I love the interface, the speakers (quite loud if you need them to be), having email access, the browser.

It is expensive though. I think for just the Iphone with 400 minutes and unlimited data download is $59.00 a month. You don't have a choice for data download packages. It's a flat $30.00 a month and that doesn't include texting (that's just email download and internet browsing), so it can get expensive if you add some other features and phones. However, I like ATT's family plan. We currently have 4 phones, unlimited texting, and my Iphone and I think everything's about $140 a month.

How easy is it to make a phone call?

I think Iphones are awesome for the apps alone. You can do just about anything on that phone. If you also use a palm you'll be able to keep all your info on just you phone.

I guess the typing can be small but if you turn it sideways it becomes larger and easier to type (although I don't bother with that, I type with it verticle and I don't have more typos than I did with my last phone, lol)

How easy is it to make a phone call?

Very easy, I save all the folks I call often under favorites and you just touch their name and it dials their number. Otherwise you can either go through contacts or bring up a keypad and punch the numbers as you would on any phone.

The pros:

  1. There are a ridiculous number of apps availabe; some free, some for a fee, but many great apps.
  2. The phone works great. Unlike some smartphones that sacrifice clear calls or dropped calls for lots of features, this phone is the most reliable I've ever used.
  3. This is the most reliable mobile email device I've owned. Far better than the Motorolla Q, and easier to use than a Blackberry.
  4. A bright, vivid display that makes viewing apps, movies, whatever easy on the eyes.
  5. A great music player; iPods are almost universally accepted as the best MP3 players, and this takes an iPod and plusses it.

Cons:
  1. No voice dialing. For me, that's not a big deal, but for some people that is huge. There is a voice dial app, but you pay a one time fee of $3.99 for it, and it gets mixed reviews.
  2. No removable battery. This is two potential problems. The first is that you can't have a spare battery in case you talk a lot during the day; the second is that batteries wear out. This limits the life of the iPhone.
  3. The iPhone doesn't work in all iPod accessories. It will function in most, but some it is simply incompatible with. Also, some accessories ask you to turn the iPhone into airplane mode to use it.
  4. It's expensive, and uninsurable. Even though other phones are more expensive and insurable, the iPhone cannot get insured. DON'T MISTAKE THE APPLE CARE PROTECTION FOR INSURANCE! That care is only an extended warranty.
  5. There is no MS Word or Excel for an iPhone. You can view those files, but you cannot address them.

Timely thread..I was playing with the I-phone yesterday in a store, thinking maybe I might get it..I have a few friends that have it and hate it so it's interesting to hear the viewpoints.

:thumbsup2

I love my iPhone! In the beginning I hated the keyboard but now that I'm used to it I love it. The only problem I have is I forget to lock it and I'll call someone when I put my phone in my purse or pocket and not realize it. Oh and don't lose your earbuds to it because regular cheapie ones wont work with the iPhone. I did and they cost $30 to replace. Other than that I don't have anything I dislike about it. The apps are awesome!

I do agree phone calls are easy to make and the dropped calls for me have been much less, especially when I travel (which is LOTS). I also agree that it totally sucks that they are uninsurable. I tend to misplace phones so that kind of sucked.

I'm getting more and more use to it. But, just that stupid keyboard LOL!!

I don't have one, but am planning to get one. Looks like the new version coming soon will have some cool stuff. I'm holding off to see what the new version is capable of.:)

My boyfriend really really really wants one, but we've heard that there's a new version (just updated or what have you) coming out this summer. So he's going to attempt to wait.

...just a lil fyi

I love mine. The new software is being released in June, I've only had it a few weeks if that and I love it.

I forgot to mention that the 1st generation iPhone has a speaker phone that is useless IMHO, but the 3g that came out last year is much improved. I bought my PA one for Christmas; mine is 1st gen, hers is the 3g. She uses her speaker phone all of the time. I don't even try it because I can't hear the caller, and they can't hear me.

Thank you for all of your responses.

Is there another phone that AT&T carries that has a good texting feature, speaker phone, and one that allows me to go onto the internet, and not just check my emails which I already have?

I had the blackberry bold and I could get on the internet but no where near as good as I can on the iphone. The speaker phone was good and it was a full keyboard

Love my iPhone, but hate that it isn't easy to skip songs and go forward while using it as an MP3 player.

I use earbuds with it instead of the Apple earphones and it works fine.

this doesn't limit the life of the phone, but does cause an inconvenience, you send it in and they replace the battery
