I've posted this elsewhere but inspite of the differences between providers in the USA and UK know that a few on here highly rate their iPhone :goodvibes

My current contract is coming to an end and I'm making a case for "santa" that I should have my stocking filled with an iPhone :rolleyes1

As an iPod fan I think this would be just the ticket although I'm sure many will tell me that there are better mobiles available. These will not help my arguement and I will not be able to use this thread ;)

So tell me what is great about an iPhone :) How do you find texting?
8Gb or 16Gb - although with a classic ipod that is full of music, videos and podcasts this may not be important ?

Killer apps? PAYG or contract?

I'm sure I will think of some other questions, but let the converting begin :goodvibes

I have the iTouch and love it. you can find so much on the app store. check it out on itunes. see what you can tempt Santa with. I love the free Bolt app. Rinoball is a blast

one of the easiest answers is that is does what you think it should do the way you think it should do it most of the time. in the US you can only get the phone with a contract... there is not pay as you go.

Killer apps are numerous, but vary by person... for me it is all about having the internet in your pocket. I don't have to juggle over devices or technology, cause it's in the iPhone.

I have never filled my 8gig, but then again... I don't keep a lot of music on it, as it has "killer apps" that let you get 1000's of radio stations that cover the gambit of musical tastes.

Texting is easy, though there are some things that it takes auto correct a few tries to realize.

I had my Iphone for over a year now it is by far the best phone I ever owned.
I have a couple of complaints but their minor things (you can't muti media or picture text) (Bluetooth issues) but the phone can do so much it is well worth it.
The service with ATT is good I have the 8 gig and it has plenty of space on it
I have 50 apps - 30 videos 250 songs and still have a couple of gigs left

Appreciate your replies. In the UK only O2 have a deal to provide iPhone unless you look at the options of hacking... not something that I'm comfortable with.
Suspect that we don't have as many apps as USA users.

What are the apps you could not do without ?

Well, for an iphone here, you're probably better getting a contract from O2, otherwise, you're paying far too much for the phone and then using the phone, and, the contract will be better priced for the internet useage, if not using wifi when out and about, and won't drain your PAYG credit. Also, hacked iphones are quite hard to find in this country, and if you do, are very very expensive from a trusted retailer. Also, hacked ones are easily bricked when used with iTunes. I work/ed in a second hand electronics where most of the business was from mobiles, and there were very little iphones that came in, and the ones that did would either be fake, hacked, or american. At one point, the selling price of a 2nd hand iphone was about £500.

For apps, I have the lightsaber, Tap Tap Revenge, pacman lite and an awesome solitaire game called SOL Free. eBay is also handy and they even make Line Rider for the iphone/touch.

If you're intending on using your ipod along with the phone, then you probably only need an 8gb, however, if the deals are good on the contracts, it's up to you.

Nothing new to say, just have to chime in and say I LOVE the iPhone. I have had it for a over and it has become my "Everything" device.

To call it a phone is almost a dis service to it, it's more like a small computer that can make phone calls.

Matt - do you find that you get good cell service around here w/ AT&T? We've been with Verizon forever, except for 2 years in hell when we switched to Sprint for a while. We had dropped calls all the freakin' time w/ Sprint! So, we switched back to Verizon as soon as we could.

Our Verizon contract is up in May and I really want to get an iPhone then...but not if it means crappy cell service!

Hey Cyrano. Like every iPhone user, I love mine and if you are thinking about one, I say, get one! I bought my 3G the first weekend, soon after I got DW a touch (cost too much to upgrade in the current contract) then, 2 weeks ago, my FIL bought a used 1st gen iPhone.

Iphones have to be the Swiss army knife of the Tech world! With the app store, nearly anything you could want to do with your iphone is out there.

Right now one developer has created a program called Rev that will sync up with a wireless OBD II code scanner to help pull trouble codes from your cars computers. Then there's another app called Dynolicious, which you can use to get 0-60, 1/4 mile and skid pad numbers while driving your car.

Then there are all the games... I honestly download 3-5 apps a week (mostly free, probably about $10-15 a month in apps and music). There's just so, so much stuff and in a year, there's just going to be so much more.

TBH, in the US you can get a 3g 8 gig iPhone for $200, with a new contract of course, and for a $100 more you can get 16g. Anybody that is considering buying one, I tell to just spend the extra $100 and get the 16. A little more, but it's cheaper to do it now rather than later.

Texting and emailing work well, but not being able to send MMS is a pain.

I talk to a couple people that still carry their iPods and iPhones at the same time. But they feel it's always important to have all their media. Not me, I can settle with a few 100 songs, podcasts and videos. But if you ever have the urge to listen to something different... You can get so many different apps to listen to commercial free music streaming through the internet!

Oh yes and there's another program called Simplify. Install it on iPhone and your home computer and you can stream in any audio media in your iTunes at home, while on the go, through your iPhone.

I can geek out over recommendations all day over this... sorry!
