when it's in silent mode?

On my old phone, I could silence everyone's ring except DD's and DH's, during the day while I slept (since after 24 years, some people still can't remember to NOT call me during the day ) I slept better knowing that in case of an emergency, those two (plus DD's school) could still get thru.

Is there a way to do that with the iphone? I googled it, and one site came up, but the link wasn't working.

I don't know the best way to do it but what I do is set my general/regular ring tone to silent and then assign a special ringtones to my family members.

You situation is the ENTIRE reason I will always have a landline, and the reason I NEVER give out my cell phone number.
I tell people, call me when every want on the land line. I turn the ringer off and the answering machine volume to zero when I sleep. My cell phone is my "you need to reach me right now because it's an emergency phone". I leave it on when I sleep. 5 people have my cell phone number, wife, 2 kids, mom and MIL.
Can you tell I worked graveyard shift for 25 years, and now work 3 am to 11:30 am?
