I am thinking of getting an IPad2.
Tell me the good and the bad please

Good: lots of apps available, really good display

Bad: No Flash support, and lots of the websites I want to browse use flash

The good: not having to "boot up " the computer anytime you want to jump online, Netflix app(subscription to Netflix required), e-reader, great apps, ,,,,,, I could go on...

The bad: the camera is not good quality :(

I love mine though!!

I love my iPad 2. It's light weight and I can take it anywhere. It's got tons of apps. And it's wonderful in that there's a wide variety of apps for anyone's interest. I have kids apps, adult apps, etc. We travel a lot so it keeps me and my son entertained and we no longer have to lug around a dvd player, a heavy laptop and a Nintendo DS.

The bad. The movies and TV shows are pricey (imo.) You can stream netflix through it as an alternative though. It doesn't support Flash websites (although in the 5 months I've had mine I've only encountered 2 websites I couldn't view because of flash issues.)

The big thing that I would emphasize, and this is just my opinion, but the ipad should be viewed as a toy or something for entertainment. It is not as functional as a laptop and will never replace my laptop. If you're looking for it to be used in the same fashion as a laptop, just go with a laptop. It's great for quickly checking email, or just surfing the internet. It's not so great if you're trying to type long forum posts or have papers to write or even if you're trying to multi task on the internet.

I wish that when you purchased a program, say Things or iWork, that you didn't need to purchase one set for your computer and one for your iPad. I wish they integrated better.

I found that just buying a $500 iPad was not enough. I needed to upgrade to the next memory amount, so $600, plus tax, $650. Then it needs a case or protective cover for it, another $50-$100. Then I found I really utilized it better with a wireless keyboard, another $50. Utility apps can run $10-$20 depending on what you want to do with your iPad.

So, overall, I would have spent around $750-$800, which is close to the smallest laptop price by Apple. However, I did get a $550 gift card to start so the cost wasn't as high for me personally. I wouldn't have gotten it if it had been.

I love that I can take it anywhere and that the battery lasts for a very long time.

This is basically it. I hate the no flash support. We just bought a new home computer and because of this I would not get an Apple.

We love ours (really it's my husband's) Rarely do we get in to the Flash trap. He uses it to watch movies that he has loaded on to one of our back-up drives. We can lay in bed and watch one of 50 movies on hand. Or better yet, watch while we travel. It's great as a reader, as well.

The only con I see is it's hard finding a case that won't let it slide around a bit, making it harder to hit the buttons. Not a huge problem, though.

FYI... Mac laptops and desktops do support flash. I play farmville every day on mine.:flower::surfweb:

I have one for work and get kicked off the internet a lot! I have to constantly reconnect, but I do not have that problem with the Samsung Galaxy.

I bought my DBF one last week for his birthday and he hasn't put it down.

To the poster who said their case didnt fit snugly...I wonder if you have an iPad 2 and you purchased and iPad case. The original iPad is larger than the iPad 2. Cases for each of them should always dit snugly.

Lots of great apps. I never had a problem with Flash sites. I want one for myself now!

I chose not to get an Apple out of protest. There is not reason the IPad cannot have flash. It blocks me event when I try to install it.

I forgot to add: I find I can almost never connect with the free WIFI at airports. This really irks me too. My laptop will connect but not my IPad. The IPad does connect in hotels.

Regarding cases, I got a RooCase on amazon that fits perfectly! It even has the magnetic closure that puts your iPad to sleep when you close to save on battery. My case was $25.

Thanks for the help.
The two things that hold me back are not being able to support flash player and not being able to hook my Itouch to it.

There is an app that kind of replaces adobe player. It's called the skyfire app. The cost is 2.99. it works pretty well. the problem i have with my ipad is pressing the home button. i find that i have to press it a few times before it gets me back to the main page. Does anybody have that problem?:surfweb:

I'm curious...why would you need to hook your Itouch to your Ipad? Do you mean to use the Ipad like your PC in order to synch with your music/video library? If so, the new cloud feature will solve that issue.

I have one for work and get kicked off the internet a lot! I have to constantly reconnect, but I do not have that problem with the Samsung Galaxy.

Did your IT group have to set up anything on the Ipad for your work? Could possibly be a result of security protocols placed on the Ipad by them?

:confused3

There are many, many snug fitting cases. What are you using which doesn't fit correctly?

I have this one - it works very well:

:thumbsup2 I also highly recommend this one! I have it in the Tan and it works perfectly for me. Makes it a little thicker than I'd like (almost all cases do), but it protects all the way around and looks good.

I forgot to add: I find I can almost never connect with the free WIFI at airports. This really irks me too. My laptop will connect but not my IPad. The IPad does connect in hotels.

I've never had an issue connecting to any free wi-fi with mine. :confused3

To the OP: Here is the biggest negative...you will never put it down! You will know where it is at all times and find yourself carrying it around the house even when you're not using it! :rotfl:

I got the first ipad when it came out. We also have an ipad 2 for DH. I will tell you my biggest negative and i will say now that it probably a problem that only I encounter and it's not something you will prob have to worry about.

I drop my ipad on my face a lot.

Okay now that you are done laughing i spend a lot of time on my ipad and tend to lie or recline in bed with it. I am usually holding it on my chest with one hand so i can read, surf, play etc. ocassionally that arm gets tired and i drop the ipad. and always on my face.

Anwyay, this is my way of saying i think they are totally worth the investment. I don't know that people really need the screen protector, cases etc. (i could see the keyboard). Mine looks just like it did the day i bought it (except for the finger prints but those come off with some glass cleaner).

good luck with your decision. it is defintely an expensive toy.

I love mine, only drawback is that the kids are always grabbing it before I can! I love the portability of it and that you can get online so quickly with it.

Can anyone recommend a good docking station with speakers for it? I had seen one at BJ's but I looked up the reviews for it and it said it really wasn't made for the Ipad2, just the Ipad so it didn't fit correctly.
