Has anyone tried it? I need to know before I decide to leave my notebook at home. I can't be completely out of touch computer-wise in case of a client emergency.

Wish I had an IPad to corroborate but I don't. However, I can't imagine why it wouldn't work. 3G on my iPhone worked fine there.

You could also bring a wireless router for WiFi in case the 3G signal was not strong or fast enough. -- Suzanne

I don't have 3G on my iPad, but I did use my router and had not problems connecting to the internet. My iPhone had no problems connecting with the 3G either.

I used the 3G network on my iPhone. I sent photos to facebook, went on the Internet, read and sent emails etc. I also had great reception for phone calls.

:)I don't have an Ipad...yet...but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

I am so sorry, this week at work has been horribly busy as was last week..I was just tryring to humor myself....move along ToddyLu.....

I'm sure your service will be a-okay, but be aware that DH brought only his iPad (in lieu of his laptop) on a recent trip and it was not a good experience having only the iPad for preparing documents and sending attachments. Getting email was fine, but actually using the thing as a laptop (with Apple's Numbers and word processing program) was not workable for DH (which was a bummer because that's why we bought the thing). Hopefully, you'll have better luck. :goodvibes

I am concerned about this also. Does he have one of the keyboards or was he just trying to use the screen?

I don't have mine yet. It will probably be here in a week or so which gives me a few months before I try taking it on vacation with or without a notebook. It doesn't have to be as easy as a notebook but it can't be so hard that if needed I can't get things done. Email and gotomypc are the priorities.

I love the idea of being able to use it as a digital picture frame. It will make it seem even more like home.

Gotomypc has not yet released an app for the iPad or the iPhone and no release date has been scheduled. I switched to Logmein instead, but found some challenges to navigating a Windows computer remotely from the iPad touch screen quickly when I was anxious to get back to the parks! I have practiced more since then, but will take the laptop as a back up until I feel more confident with my skills. -- Suzanne

Me, too.

I love my ipad. But, it's mostly an information-consumption device, not a production device. If I expect to have to do "real work" on the road, I make a point to bring my 13" macbook pro. But, for just keeping up on email and message boards, the ipad is sufficient.

Love my I-Pad ... Hate trying to type with two fingers...too sensitive to use as a pc keyboard...3G was wonderful for a 4 hour drive

It'll work. But reception sucks inside Disney rooms. So step onto the balcony.

This is exactly what I do... between not wanting to sit at a desk to work on my laptop (now iPad), our iphones and my wife's netbook, there are just too many devices... Spend $50-100, buy one, set it up and then just plug it in when at the room. Although, I do recommend either putting in your checked bags OR taking it out of your bag during the security checked... I got searched last time specifically because of the router at MCO (not in Chicago though).

Or if you have an Iphone, jailbreak, put on MyWi and then use that as a mobile hotspot.... but I like the wireless router route better.

The Apple Bluetooth Keyboard works great with it... I bring mine along just because its small enough. Great for most of what i have to do on the road.

That is a fair point... although you could utilize a remote control client to connect to a physical desktop to work off of... Not a route I would use unless absolutely necessary (such as providing remote support for a client), but it does work. But I do agree that if I am doing a lot of work, the laptop comes with.

That was the bit of information I really needed. I don't use AT&T but verizon is only fair in the room and I suspected AT&T would be the same.

I have a spare one. I just need to take it down and put it in our owner's locker. Maybe I should consider doing the same with my old dell notebook that the Ipad is meant to replace. It is horribly slow but it would do the job.
