DH just informed me that we'll be spending Saturday & Sunday nights in the Bettendorf, IA/ Moline, IL area. We've seen quite a bit of IL, but have only seen Bettendorf Davenport in IA. For that reason, we'd like to spend Sunday seeing more of Iowa. I'm hoping someone here will have suggestions for a day trip from Bettendorf Davenport. Any recommendations will be very much appreciated.

Edited to correct Bettendorf with Davenport. Naturally, we also drove by Bettendorf, when we were in Davenport.

I don't live in Iowa, but when we drove through several years ago, we stopped at Devonian Fossil Gorge and thought it was really neat. It's about an hour west of Bettendorf.

We just did a long weekend in Iowa. West Branch is about 50 minutes from Moline, and is the home of the Herbert Hoover presidential library and museum. That was fabulous!

There are 2 historic homes in Moline, related to John Deere- the homes are across the street from each other. Tours were very interesting.

Also-about 25 minutes is The Worlds Largest Truck stop, in Walcott. This was also fun seeing it, and there is a truck museum about 1/4 mile away, very interesting.

We headed to Galena, as it was on our way home, only because we were in the area, didn’t like the shopping area, couldn’t leave fast enough. The Grant presidential museum is in Galena, we did not see it, but if I am ever passing through that area, I would like to visit.

A quick look on Google Maps, and it looks like the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and "Iowa 80 - The World's Largest Truckstop" aren't too far away. Maybe this will help, too: Travel Iowa: Bettendorf

Thanks so much to both of you for the suggestions. We definitely plan to go to Herbert Hoover Presidential Library & will probably drive to LeClaire. I still need to check the link dizneegirl provided, before we set our final itinerary.

I'd love to see the historic homes in Moline, if we can fit them in.
