we are planning to visit ioa/us this August for the 1st time as a family (last time I went was about 20 years ago), and I've read to expect more motion sickness risks on these rides. I skip tea cups, and closed my eyes after about 5 seconds of the mission space ride in Epcot (in the milder one).

I'm wondering if anyone can provide a rating of worst to not so bad of rides at these parks. My motion sickness is generally just a woozy head, not vomitting. So, on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the absolute worst, any suggestions?

Thanks!

Be careful with the Harry potter ride. I never used to experience motion sickness but that ride really got to me!

I get horrible motion sickness. Took Dramamine and bonine: did not help. Got the prescription patch for behind the ear and presto: could ride everything.

I don't really suffer from motion sickness but the simpsons ride made me feel a bit off

I get queasy watching 1st person video games (however less so if I'm playing rather than watching) and had similar concerns regarding the simulator rides. But I had to experience each at least once. My picks from worst to not too bad: Simpsons ride was the worst. Couldn't wait for that one to be over. It was constant 1st person perspective movie. My family went on a second time so I just kept my eyes shut rather then bail out on them. FJ was a little rough but moving between real life and simulation helped break it up. A little woozy after that one. I loved the ride and glad I did it but avoided going on a second time, so I guess that's pretty telling. Spiderman and transformers are similar. Worst parts for me are when you're up high and then fall, but that's only once per ride. I went on each twice. I survived fine all four times and might have closed my eyes or focused on the vehicle for the 4th time we dropped. For Despicable Me, we were in the back of the car and I had someone's head blocking the screen. I think that distracted me from the motion issue. Also, it's a big theater room and easy to look away. I enjoyed Gringotts and rode that twice. Not sure why but that motion didn't bother me, even though that one had a fall too. I don't recall having any issues with Kong. Shrek wasn't too bad because you weren't always moving and it was a big theater.

If I went again, the only one I wouldn't want to ride is Simpsons. The rest were worth a little bit of woozy because of the experience.

For comparison I can't read in the car without getting sick. I usually get sick by sitting in the back seat. 10 years ago I couldn't even watch a carousel go round. But now I can ride them (but I have to watch my focus and sometimes I have to shut my eyes). I hardly ride anything because I'm also a big chicken and afraid of drops and any rollercoaster except Barnstormer at Disney. I can handle the movement of simulators but not when combined with the images. I usually just hold bags and take photos. At Universal/IOA I did these:

Minions (sat on non-moving front row-shut my eyes-watching made me sick).
Transformers and Spiderman. I hated these. I kept my eyes shut 80% of the time and felt pretty crappy after Spiderman.
ET was fine for me
Terminator Movie was like any other 3D movie. I'd prefer to watch in 2 D but it didn't ruin my day.
High in the Sky Trolley (a little high up for me haha)

Wow that's a short list. I mean to try more things this year but I get so worked over it. I really want to know how bad the drop on Gringotts is...from someone who hates drops.

Forbidden Journey had me looking for where to direct my vomit (thankfully held it in), but Gringotts was fine. Simpsons is terrible so I skipped out on Minions.

I'd say as for simulators Simpsons is the worst. I do not know how much people get sick on it, but I know personally that physically it takes a toll on me when I personally go on it and is the most uncomfortable simulator for me. Forbidden Journey, however, I've heard gets a lot of comments of motion sickness, but I personally have never experienced it. However, as simulators go, it is in my opinion the smoothest in terms of movement.

I was the same on FJ.......hits an awful lot of people that way........I find it too jerky......seems to be a common complaint from people.

Gringotts is fine.......but I can't do Simpsons......however, minions I find I'm totally fine on.....no symptoms whatsoever on that one........

They do have the seats on Minions that don't move if that could help you a bit if you wanted to try.

I am one of those people who cannot ride in the back seat of a car. Even a short trip sets me off! Flying is not good for me either but I have found what works great for me is this:

The night before I travel I take a dose of meclizine (Brand name Bonine). In the morning I take another one before we travel or go to the theme parks and everything is great.

I rode all the rides several times with no issues at all. I do agree that the Simpon's ride is the worst though. It was one and done for me!

I took Bonine like everyone suggested. I still felt terrible on Forbidden Journey! I even upped my dosage to 2 pills on the following days and still had trouble. I found it was best for me to just close my eyes during the movie scenes. I also had trouble with Minions, Simpsons and at the very end of Spider Man. Good luck!

I plan on taking Bonine just like I do when I go on DCL. I take mine at night starting the night before. Then continue each night. I hope it works for me for US/IOA as it works for DCL.

I'm fine on all the rides at Universal except one segment of Forbidden Journey. The Quidditch scene, for whatever reason, makes me a little queasy the first ride of the day. The second ride of the day, that scene makes me full-on queasy. I will not ride it three times in one day. Sometimes I just close my eyes during that scene the second ride of the day.

For perspective, I get mild motion sickness on some motion simulator rides and DH gets it very easily on pretty much all.

DH can only do the Hogwarts Train, ET, Shrek, Trolley in the Sky, Minions in the stationary chairs, the log flume ride, and Jurassic Park with no issues.

DH can do MIB, the water raft ride, Cat in the Hat, and Gringotts with *some queasiness* and it has to be the only queasy ride of the day ;).

DH feels sick and can't do Simpsons, Hulk, Dueling Dragons, and Mummy.

DH hasn't bothered doing Spiderman, Transformers, Forbidden Journey, and Rip Rocket- he knows these are no-goes for him.

I can do all rides without being outwardly sick (vomiting) but feel mildly queasy after Spiderman and Gringotts. I have stopped doing the big coasters because I hate the upside down motion. I haven't tried Forbidden Journey yet because I've heard that many people feel sick on it. I still love the Mummy and it rarely makes me feel queasy afterwards.

I feel vague motion sickness on some of the screen rides, but especially the Simpson Ride. If it lasted another ten seconds, I wouldn't be a in a good way!

I don't think we have Bonine here in Canada. If I can find some when we get to Florida, are there any side effects I should be aware of (e.g. drowsiness)?
