Ioa Is Not A Rollercoaster Park!

The "Great" movie ride has to stories?? I've only ever seen the gangster one, never a cowboy one! Learn a new thing everyday (or several new things on the dis!)

I have to disagree as I am one of those "coaster geeks". I look at Dueling Dragons as two coasters with complementary theming and one main entrance. The queue does split into two separate lines with two separate loading docks with separate tracks. They can and sometimes do run independently of each other as far as timing and downtime.

True. I do agree with you on that point. I just think when you are naming rides in the park that Dragons would count as one ride. But really that's only semantics.

When I haven't fallen asleep, I think I remember the Great Movie Ride was primarily the same ride with a different CM "story". Same queue, and I believe one does not run without the other or at least I can't think of why it would.

When lines are minimal, the Cowboy side doesn't run.

IOA's own website defines PT Flyers as a hanging coaster. It has every key element of a coaster.

Yeah, it probably is technically a coaster, I just find it more like Peter Pan than a hanging coaster.

I don't mean to be argumentative, but that's how I see it.

You're not argumentative at all and I welcome the sharing of different views. In fact, you convinced me that PT Flyers is, in fact, a coaster.

I've never ridden Mousetrap but it absolutely does have that carney ride feel (on purpose). Forgot the name of it, but I rode one just like it at DCA

I grew up in a small town in Texas in the 50's and 60's and the highlight of our year was when the carnival came to town during the county fair. The Mousetrap was a tangled coaster that would weave in and out around the tracks like a mess of spaghetti. It had sharp turns and a rickety metal track. You always felt like you were about to run into another car on the track, right before you would dip down or turn. I loved it as a kid.

I am one of those "coaster geeks".
Edited to add: I used to lurk on rec.roller-coasters newgroups. I need to go back there and do some more reading. Thanks for the info on the difference between a coaster and a ride. I just ride the rides but I want to be a coaster geek too.

technically a rollercoaster goes via gravity and has sections that are unpowered.

In the traditional sense absolutely. There are accelerator coasters such as the Top Thrill Dragster or Kingda Ka that put a new "twist" to the gravity aspect, as gravity is the overcomng force at launch. Certainly the apogee twist and gravity induced fall is also a big part of the ride, but not as intense as the launch itself.

Although Dragons has two coasters, it is still one ride. Just as the Great Movie Ride has too different storylines (gangsta or cowboy) I would not call it two rides. I also wouldn't call PT Flyers a coaster anymore than I would call ET or Peter Pan a coaster.

Primeval Whirl reminds me of the old carnival coaster called Mousetrap.

Hey last time I rode ET it ripped my head off, talk about a mega-coaster. Just kidding, but in all fairness, yes you have to consider DD 2 coasters. They are both very different rides. All coaster enthusiasts consider them to be 2 rides. Fire and Ice. One attraction, 2 rides.

Which one do you guys prefer?

....Which one do you guys prefer?
NOT that US/IOA is a coaster park :D, but Fire is my personal preference. It actually is 5 MPH faster and has more elements even though they are repetitive. Do you prefer the front or back?

The bad girl here prefers the back of coasters. I just think they are so much more fun and seem wayy faster. It's always fun to ride at the front aswell, just to see everything infront of you.

On the Hulk, the back is much better for me, if not just for the boost at the start. At the front of the hulk, you are practically at the top when you boost out na dyou can barely feel it there!

Probably the front just because I can see, but the back is probably a better ride, but I don't like not being able to see.

I honestly can't remember which one I liked the best but I'm going to do both again next week which is when I'm going back.

Do you know which is the smoothest and straightest? Some of those tight turns are a little too G-forcey on me. My favorite type of coaster is like the Desperado in Las Vegas, or the Titan in 6-Flags over TExas. Very Tall (has to be over 200ft for me) fast straight and smoooooooooth.

Yep absolutely the back on the Hulk no doubt about it.

I would have to say that Ice is going to be better for you. It does have some nice elements that are a far cry from straight, but as far as G-force, it is IMHO tamer than Fire.

I prefer Fire as well and I usually ride in the second row. If I'm there alone, sometimes they need single riders for the front row and I always volunteer. :rolleyes1

What you do is you make the line in row 2 and just wait for an open seat in the front row and rush your way to it ASAP!!Since we're talking coasters anybody see that both Sea World and BGT might be getting a new coaster each!!!
