Inverted lenses - please tells (show) me more

I've read a little about inverting lens to do close-up/macro shots.

How is the mount achieved?

I'll be that there are creative possibilties beyond macro work, too.

I haven't heard anything about inverting lenses for macro but I do know something about reverse rings & extension tubes to shoot macros on non-macro lens. These techniques act as a "magnifying" glass to your existing lenses.

Essentially, inverting lenses just requires adapters that have male filter threading on the lens end, rather than a lens mount. There are lots of adapters out there - just choose the appropriate filter size for the lens you're looking to invert. Fotodiox makes quite a few in various sizes, available in places like Amazon or eBay.

I've done a few reversed lens shots, but haven't bought an adapter - I went with handheld, just holding them to the camera body. Make sure though that your camera has an option to release the shutter without a lens attached, as when reversed, most cameras see that as having no lens since there are no electronic connections.

I used a reversing ring on a Canon XSi (450D) - they work and are cheap ($5) but extension tubes give you more control and of course a real macro lens is much better

Too bad the only macro shots I have are from my wedding work. Macros definitely has its own creativity. You definitely need a monopod or tripod because you are so close to the subject that steadiness is a must.

This was taken handheld with the EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens. My camera was propped on a pillow to raise the angle slightly so I won't have to hold it.
