Intimate Wedding Q's

Hiwaygal,

You mentioned that you had a quick civil ceremony at home before you were married at Disney. I would like to do the same. Did you book your wedding as a intimate vow renewal in order not to have the Florida marriage license?

Thanks

Nope! ;)

I originally booked as an Intimate Wedding. At first, we were going to get married there, but the cost to get a license in Florida was about 3 times more than it cost for us to get married here at home. And, to be honest, Disney didn't even ask for my certificate as "proof" even though we were supposed to have it...we did have it, they just didn't ask. :)

There is no difference (to Disney) whether you are only renewing your vows or if it is to be an "official" wedding ceremony...just make sure you let your officiant know 'cause they will need to sign the document if it is "official".

Although, at some point during the planning, I did let my EM know that "technically" we would be doing a vow renewal...four days after our legal wedding.

Have fun!! :)

Hiwaygal,

Thanks for the info, my DH decided that he wants to get married in the Catholic church before we go to Disney, so I have to get my marriage license before that, then we'll just have a ceremony in Disney.

According to Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings website:

- - - - - - -
What documents will I need for my Disney Vow Renewal?
Proof of your valid marriage license is required prior to hosting your ceremony at the Walt Disney World® Resort. Sorry, but passports are not acceptable as proof of marriage.

I had to produce a copy of my marriage license well in advance of my vow renewal. As soon as I had booked my vow renewal, it was one of the first things that I was asked for. I sent it to the Fairy Tale Weddings folks right away.

Since I had been married for 20 years, I wasn’t sure where my marriage license was. My guess was that it was stored safely inside my bank’s safe deposit box. Imagine my surprise when I found it in the back of my old wedding album (I had pulled that album out because I was going to use a wedding photo for the cover of my custom vow renewal invitations).

Finding my wedding license inside that photo album saved me a trip to the bank. Of course, now that I am typing this post, I am wondering where that license is now -- probably back in the wedding album. ;)

For weddings at Sunset Point, where is the reception located? Is it outdoors near the ceremony takes place, or indoors in the poly someplace?

Goofy101, just like Hiwaygal stated, your cake cutting reception normally will take place at the location of your wedding ceremony, but due to weather, it can be held at another location, as can your wedding ceremony.

Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings website states the following:

- - - - - - -
If inclement weather should occur on the day of the wedding an indoor back-up location will be provided.
- - - - - - -

I have seen many photos of Sunset Pointe wedding ceremonies with cake cutting receptions held right there at Sunset Pointe. Here is one photo that I just found on the ‘net: click here and go to photo # 4. I have also seen photos of cake cutting receptions that were held indoors at other locations within the Polynesian Resort.

Our wedding, from the time we left our room, 'til we got back was about an hour and a half. That includes pics before and after, the ceremony, and cake cutting reception, and the walking from our room at the Boardwalk to Sea Breeze Point (not a very long walk at all). I think for intimates, Disney really tries to keep things moving at the different venues because they schedule them 2 hours apart and everything (more or less) takes place at that location.

Hiwaygal, thank you so much for the information. We will probably renew our vows again for our 25th anniversary, we're just not sure if we're going to go the "intimate" or the "custom" route. I'm storing information in the back of my mind for when we have to make that decision (we might even decide to go the Disneyland route).

I looked at your photos. They were beautiful, ~sigh.~ Thank you so much for sharing them. And I loved your flowers. Very similar to what I used: click here. You have good taste. ;) By the way, I adored your headpiece. Wow! For an outdoor ceremony, it was perfect. Absolutely perfect.

Congratulations on your marriage. You and your husband look wonderful together in your photos. So in love. What a darling couple you make! I wish you the best that life has to offer.

Cinderella's castle of course :earsboy:

Goofy101, I wish my husband were more like you. Your future bride is one very lucky girl!

I have tasked my husband with our 25th wedding anniversary (still a few years off). Of course, I know him all too well after having been with him for 23 years (and married for 21 years). I am keeping a list of possible events stored in the back of my mind. I have a funny feeling that I will be the one who prods him along when the time is right. But I can't complain too much. He does all the cooking, cleaning, and laundry, so I suppose it is only right that I plan all the fun parties. ;)

Thank you so much, Janet2k! I think Disney photography did a wonderful job on our photos!

I was very happy with my flowers...and I was so glad the headpiece matched so well!! I originally asked Disney about one made with real flowers, and it was well over $100 :earseek: So I decided to make it myself! I found pictures of the "garden" bouquet done for other brides and took them to the craft stores to pick out flowers...then I sat and wired the flowers together in little bunches then wired them to the headpiece...took about 2 hours! I was SOOO hoping the flowers would be close. And they were!!! Just seemed like it was meant to be! :)

I liked your flowers (that pic of the bouquets is really wonderful!). Did you do anything to have yours preserved? It's too late for mine now...but I'm glad I got some good pictures of it!!

Thanks for the more accurate info on the vow renewals and the marriage certificate...I think I slipped by on a technicality because our actual civil ceremony was only days before the Disney wedding. And now that I think about it, we DIDN'T have a copy of the certificate/license! It wasn't going to be filed until the day we arrived in Disney and I told my EM she could call and maybe get someone to fax it to her...but I don't remember whatever became of that! :rotfl: Oh well...

When is your 25th anniversary? How much longer do you have to plan??

Holy, Moley! Never in a million years would I have guessed your headpiece was made by someone other than the person who had created your bouquet. YOWSA! I just had to go back and view your photos again. Yes, you did a splendid, splendid job. Bravo!

My favorite flower is the daisy. I am jealous that you had daises in your bouquet. I had stephanotis in mine since I had Hidden Mickey’s added to my bouquet and my bridesmaids’ bouquets: click here. But don’t feel too sorry for me. I did have daisies at my event: Chair Covers & Sashes and Napkins & Napkin Rings.

I didn’t have my flowers preserved. After 20 years of marriage and two children, I decided I had enough clutter around the house. ;) But I have seen some beautiful shadowboxes done with bridal bouquets. They can do some amazing things today with floral preservation.

My 25th wedding anniversary will be in 2009. If it goes anything like my 20th wedding anniversary went, I won’t really get around to planning it until about 3 months prior. Disney really can pull off some amazing events without too much notice. Of course, it was a lot of fun planning my vow renewal, so maybe next time around I will give myself more time to enjoy the process. Strike that – my husband will be the one who will be planning the dang thing (I have to keep reminding myself of that). I’ll just be along for the ride.

By the way, it’s nice to know that my husband has a clone out there when it comes to household chores. We are spoiled ladies, aren’t we? Now pass those bonbons…

I just wanted to send you a link to the samples that the videographer we are using sent us. There are a couple of weddings there from Sunset Point, I think it will help give you a really good idea of what your day will be like. If your wife to be watches, be sure to have a box of tissues around, these are tearjerkers!

Hi again,

Thanks for info again and sorry haven't replied lately. Notifications emails aren't coming and I've got an icky cold.

Since rooms are no longer part of the package for '06, I managed to book a 1BR suite at the BWV, with a Boardwalk view(!), through a DVC Member from this board again. Saved a TON on the room again.

Called Karen and gave her our Reservation # so we should be getting our planner package in 1-2 weeks.

Goofy101, I hope you feel better soon. Please take care of yourself.

I adore the BWV (that's my home DVC resort). It is wonderful that you have a boardwalk view room. Congrats!

It sounds like your wedding planning is moving right along. That is wonderful. Please let us know when you get your planning packet. The time from here on out is just going to fly by.
