Intimate or Custom?

Hello everyone!
I am currently trying to decide whether to do an intimate wedding or a custom wedding, and I was wondering what made you choose intimate or custom? Thanks!:cutie:

I chose an intimate because I felt like I had more flexibility in a way. I liked everything that came in the package but also the fact that I could add things on. I really didn't like the idea of being held to the minimums.

The only drawback is the amount of people you can invite. Then again it's turned out to be a positive in the long run. With being limited to 18 guests it made it easier to cut our guest list down. Then we can "blame" Disney for not being able to invite some of the people we would have obligated to invite but didn't really want to pay for!

We are having a Custom wedding. We started out planning an intimate, because of the money factor. When I started to look at all the extras I wanted, I was quickly coming close to a custom wedding mininmum. We switched so that we could add a few more guests and to add the illuminations dessert party (at the time I didn't think it was offered to intimates).

I chose an intimate and it was the best decision I could have made. Because of that decision my husband and I have the money to build our river front dream home on 5 acres. The money we would have spent on a custom is going to a hefty down payment on that house. Aside from that the guest max actually made it easier for me to plan and enjoy activities with those who decided to come to the wedding.

We had an Intimate and it was the most perfect wedding I could have ever imagined :cloud9:
We chose an Intimate for several reasons:
#1 DH wanted a small wedding
#2 we had a $10k budget for everything (and I came in under that - woohoo!) because we just bought a house and didn't want to blow a fortune on one party
#3 I always wanted a Disney wedding but didn't like the WP but loved WL Sunrise Terrace and it only holds 8-10 guests
#4 It was a perfect excuse to not invite people I didn't really like  I have dozens and dozens of cousins, aunts, uncles, etc. and don't really get along with too many of them, but you invite one, you have to invite her sisters, brothers, parents, kids, etc. It would have grown to 150 people in no time
#5 I honestly only wanted people who I really love and care about to witness me get married (although I did have to leave out friends we both care about, it was a sacrifice we were willing to make)
#6 I used to plan events as part of my job, but the idea of planning a big event, with a DJ, dancing, tons of people celebrating me - I would have had a heart attack! I go to weddings or see them on TV and I know I would have hated having a big party like that. It's just not me.

Sajetto - good to see you :wave2: I was just thinking how I haven't seen you on the wedding boards in a long time . . .

i would have loved to have done a custom if i had an endless cash flow, but we chose to have an Intimate and save for a house. Plus our families were very different & we didnt want a bunch of drama.
We loved out Intimate & hope to do a VR this December:thumbsup2

It looks like everyone's reasons for an intimate are the same: we're all saving money for a house and we all had people we didn't want to invite and wanted to "blame" Disney. Aw, poor Disney! :rotfl:

Specifically, I didn't want to worry about which friends to include, whether they would all get along (I love my friends, but some of them can be...ah...clingy, we'll say, and don't necessarily play well with others), or if DF's nieces and nephews were going to do anything crazy (they aren't the most well behaved kids on the planet. one word: spoiled!).

Hope that helps!

Caroline! It is so good to see you on here! Your picture is absolutely beautiful! How was your wedding?? Did you happen to write a trip/honeymoon report? I haven't been on here for quite awhile, because nursing school has literally been consuming my life. We had to postpone the wedding b/c until I graduate, so things have been hectic! I am back in planning mode, though!;) I am pretty sure that we are still going to go with the intimate, but I was so disappointed to find out that just to have the ceremony in the WP it is now $3900!!!:sad2: :headache:  Anyway, like you, we are trying to save $$$ for a loft, but I think with characters, tranportation, etc., we are looking at at least $7000-8000. Yowzas. Anyway, that is wonderful about your river front home....will this be in NC as well? Hope you are doing well!
