My parents have 2 timeshares in Aruba. They are Interval members. They want to swap one next May for a 2BR at DVC. How do they go about doing that? Is it possible? Please excuse me, I don;t really understand the DVC too well.
They will need to initiate a search thru II to try to find an exchange. Their success will depend on the dates they want to get and the trading power of their resort. Some times of the year seem to have a little more availability at DVC resorts, but inventory has definitely increased over a few years ago.
In most cases, they can view availability online thru II.
In addition to searching and excanging thru II, there are several other sites out there that you can post or search for a direct exchange, like Redweek.com and tug2.net
Good Luck
Ps - That time frame is a good time of year to try an exchange. Its one of those tweener seasons, not slow, not busy.
Your best bet will be through II in this situation. What resort, week and unit size do they have? That will determine the likelihood of success. The best is to put in an ongoing search but they will need a 2 BR to search for a 2 BR. They should like all DVC resorts at WDW, esp if looking for a 2 BR unit. IF they have 1 BR units they might be able to get two 1 BR instead but with two exchange fees. I'm sure you know about the EXTRA $95 fee per unit on top of the II exchange fee.

In my unscientific observations: The four easiest months to exchange into DVC seem to be (in order): Sept (incl last week of Aug) , Jan, Oct/May... with the last two tied for 3rd place.
The availability is highly skewed toward studios... but 1BR units appear fairly often... and 2BR units appear occasionally.
I think their chances are good. They should put in the II request ASAP. They are already late!
