I have been looking at the world passport collection that is offered through Interval International. The vacation planner has the number of points listed per week for either one or two bedroom units. It also lists low medium and high seasons and the number of points required for each of these. Does anyone know what the dates of each of the seasons is?

The dates will vary based on the resort itself. Colorado in January and February will be a different season than in July or September while San Francisco and Aruba will have different seasons. MS will advise on the points required for the resort you request, but there is no point chart to use as a reference.

For most locations, it might be wise to assume the highest season and then be pleasantly surprised if the actual point cost is lower.

Enjoy! :)

This THREAD will give you more info including the number of points for studio and 3 BR exchanges. There is no set way to determine what weeks are LOW, MID or HIGH at a given resort and it is resort specific even though most resorts in a given area will be the same or very close. Here's what I use. I've asked DVC about specific resorts in given areas and have the info saved in my emails. I then look at the II seasons. I think a good rule of thumb is if it's green or yellow time in II, assume it's a LOW season for DVC. If it's red time, assume it's MID or HIGH season with only the peak times being high season. For example, the caribbean is red time all year long but only high season about Xmas to Easter, the rest is mid. Cancun is similar but also high for mid summer. Maui and Kauai are high season about 3/4 of the time and the Big Island only has a limited number of weeks that are High Season. Of course this can and does change slightly from year to year. The truth is even DVC can't tell you for sure until an exchange is found. They can tell you what it was in times past but not for the future. If they act like they can they're making assumptions that will be about 95-98% accurate but cannot be guaranteed. One should go into most exchanges expecting to pay high season.

This situation also applies to deposit first which is why a deposit first can be very tricky.

Thanks Dean, a useful thread, BTW I notice on your posting you mention points for a studio swap, the latest vacation planner does not mention this, are studios still available to us through II

Yes, Studios are available - even though they are not specifically listed in the planner. MS will provide the points required.

Yes both studio and 3 Br per the info in the thread I referenced above which does list the points for both studio and 3 BR exchanges. With the change a few years ago the studio is no longer a good exchange in most cases.

What was the change to the studio points?
Under the immediately previous system, DVC would deposit the lowest unit that met the season requirements. That meant that most exchanges could be had for adventure (55 at HH), Choice (82 at OKW) or at worst Dream (98 @ OKW) for a studio. This meant that the studio exchanges increased a lot, 1 BR went down a little overall and with a mild increase for the 2 BR exchanges. And while there seems to be some questions as to whether it was ever rule or intended, there was a time when any exchange at under 60 days could be had for any size deposit so 55 points at HH again. Of course one had to be able to book a unit that matched those criteria just like you were booking to use yourself. And the 11/7 months and availability rules applied unlike now.

Under the version even previous to that, DVC required you deposit your home resort. I believe the previous version still to that was deposit first with RCI from 92-95.
