My parents own a non-DVC condo that participates with II. They want to come to Disney with us next year in early Dec. We do not have enough points for them to stay with us. So, they would like to find an II condo close to Disney (I know getting a DVC unit through II that time of year will be impossible). Does anyone have recommendations for a good II condo offsite that is close to WDW?

Thank you!

It would not be impossible for your parents to trade into a DVC resort in early December 2007, if they're willing to stay in a studio and they own a good, non-Orlando, II-affiliated timeshare week. They may even be able to get something larger than a studio.

It would essentially be impossible to get a Christmas week through II, but that's not when you're going. DVC is likely to deposit some weeks with II for early December.

They'd have to be very lucky to get an instant confirmation through II. The best thing for them to do is to request (as soon as possible) an ongoing search for the five on-site DVC resorts, indicating a willingness to accept a smaller unit (and no full kitchen) — and then to wait patiently through much of 2007.

If the request hasn't cleared by early fall, then there should still be good availability at other II-affiliated, Orlando-area timeshares. The overall demand for the Orlando area in early December is fairly low, and the area is overbuilt with excellent timeshare resorts. They're likely to have no problem getting a 1BR or 2BR off-site. (Of course, it depends on what they're depositing for the trade.)

I like the Marriott Vacation Club properties.

The three Marriott properties with "Palms" in their names are close to Epcot. They're on the grounds of the Marriott Orlando World Center Resort, which is the high-rise that you see near the intersection of I-4 and Epcot Center Drive. The three "Palms" properties are older, but they're well maintained.

The other three Marriott properties are closer to Sea World. It's not a bad drive on International Drive, but it can be slow if one chooses to take I-4 during heavy traffic periods.

Good luck to them!

I do not own at DVC. I have a timeshare in Arizona, and I used Interval International to trade into a 2-BR unit at Saratoga Springs in January, 2007. I have also traded into non-DVC units in Orlando.

I agree with thHorace's post. There are a lot of good timeshares near Disney World, and there will be a lot of availability in early December. I also like the Mariott properties, and nearly all of them are a quick drive to Disney World.

Put in your request now for the DVC properties. I hear that early December is a difficult time to trade into DVC. But even if it's a longshot, there will be plenty of 1, 2, or even 3-bedroom units available in early December at non-DVC timeshares. You can always "settle" for one of those later.

We like Marriott's Cypress Harbour and Marriott's Horizon property. For adults I'd probably pick Cypress Harbour. We like staying at Horizons when we want to swim a lot (they have two zero entry pools with themed slides and a mini water park and miniature golf course). We especially like to supplement our DVC point stays with these two resorts.

Vistana Villages is also very nice. The Villages is the newest Vistana in Orlando.

There are a number of good options for non DVC. But I don't think getting a studio or even 1 BR is that difficult for early Dec. I've personally seen a number of units over the past few years including stays in a 1 BR at OKW and BWV the first week of Dec and we'll be in a 2 BR at SSR come this weekend on an II exchange. But they need to start the request now as an ongoing and not be using an Orlando deposit as Horace indicated. DVC generally does not deposit premier time so Xmas and Easter are likely out. If they don't match, getting something the lsat couple of months that would be acceptable would not be difficult. Actually, if they are II members, they could likely get a getaway for less than their maint fees. If it were I, I'd start a search for a 1 or 2 BR depending on what they need. Then with about 75-90 days to go, add the Marriott's to the list.
