Hi again,
While thinking about my transportation quandry I go this idea that I figured you people would be good to bounce off of. Our flight comes in to MCO at 11:00pm on Thursday Aug 15th and we have to spend one night at an off property hotel before starting at WDW bright and early Friday Morning. Heres the idea...
Most hotels in Orlando offer free shuttle service to and from the airport and also to and from WDW. Would it be tacky or against some rule if we 1) took the free shuttle from the airport to the off property hotel 2) stayed the night and 3) take a free shuttle to WDW with our luggage in the morning?
Let me know what you think and/or more info if this will/will not work.
Thanks again,
Minnesota

Which hotels offer free shuttles to and from the airport? I have heard of park shuttles but not airport.

Tacky, nah, I think it is smart.

The hotels around the airport area offer shuttles to and from the airport. There is a Holiday Inn, Courtyard, Marriott and several others.

I know that many of the airport area hotels do offer an airport shuttle, but I don't know of any other hotels in the area that do. Also, I've never heard of any of the airport hotels offering a free shuttle to the parks. If they do, it would be to the parking lots of the theme parks, not to the hotels (that can be quite some distance apart). The hassle might defeat your purpose.

If you can make it work, I sure don't think it's tacky.

Spending the first night not at your Disney resort (assuming a relatively late arrival) has an advantage that if your plane is delayed you don't forfeit a hotel night. There are usually a number of not too expensive motels near the airport and they are listed on a board with telephones under it, near the baggage carousels.

It may be tricky finding one that will book you for the night with no advance reservation and also that offers transportation to WDW. If they drop you off at a park you can take a Disney bus to your resort.

Your premise is wrong. Most of the hotels around the airport offer complimentary airport shuttles and most of the hotels near Disney offer park shuttles (many complimentary).
I don't know of any hotels that offer both. You could stay in an airport hotel than take a shuttle back to the airport to rent a car. If the hotels by Disney offered complimentary airport shuttles the car rental and airport limo companies would be out of business (not literally but MUCH LESS BUSINESS):D

I guess the issue really is: does the hotel you are staying at have BOTH kinds of shuttles??

If they do have both, then maybe it would work. I doubt, though, that they have both.

I did a quick check at the MCO website and most hotels do either or but not both.

If you did find a hotel with both shuttles, it would still be a hassle. The park shuttle would most likely just take you to the TTC. From there, you would have to board the ferry or monorail to the MK and get on your resort bus from there. However, if you were staying at the Poly, you could walk from the shuttle stop to your hotel.
