My DH has just been talking to a work mate who has just come back from Florida and he has advised us not to go on I 4 from Sanford to our hotel because of the road works he called it a car park! we always go this way. Has anyone else had problems over the last few weeks?

We haven't flown into Sanford for some time now, but when we did, we always used the 417 Central Florida Greenway (and in fact, we use that from Orlando International, too). It's a quiet toll road and a much better option, IMHO.

The Greenway is the best option after a long flight, sitting on the I4 would be like the drive home from work in the rush hour. ;)

Drove from Sanford to LBV on the 11th August - no problems with traffic at aprox 6pm. However, we went to Mall at Milennia and noticed that just past the turn off (east bound to Orlando/Sanford) traffic was stand still. Info board said expect 20 min delay. On our return journey there was no sign of this - between 12-1pm. All in all we experienced no delays on I-4.

Thanks Barry we would still prefer to go I4 way as we always go that way maybe his friend was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whats any worse than the M6!!!

We always go down the I4 and only experienced a delay once when there's been an accident close to some road works in rush hour (fun!) To be honest I'm normally so excited to be there I don't notice any small delays, I'm too busy with my nose glued to the window looking for any new things that have popped up since our last visit, reading the new billboards (they're so much cooler than ours) and trying to spot rides & things as we pass Universal/DTD!

Hi does anyone know how many tolls booths there are on the Greenway between Sanford and the B Line Expressway...?

Also how much spare change will we need...?

Judging from the repsonses it best to stear clear of the I4 - we travel out 2 weeks on Friday.

You've probably gathered from the responses that I4 is entirely a matter of timing and luck. It can be completely clear sailing or a quagmire.

If you've decided to take the 417, I have one suggestion. Unless you're destination is somewhere short of WDW, stay on the 417 until the Osceola Parkway exit just a couple miles from the world.

The Beach Line (528) can be a mess at times, and you're going to travel a short distance on I4 if you go that way.

Whichever route you take, you'll go through 5 toll booths. Have lots of quarters and one dollar bills.

Would go for the 417 if I had to choose, it's what the transfer buses use and is usually free of traffic jams and the road itself is well maintained and the sings are very easy to follow, Sanford Airport's own website can give you directions on how to get to your hotel :grouphug: :grouphug: here's a link http://www.orlandosanfordairport.com have a good browse :thumbsup2

We flew into Sanford on July 28th 2006 got into Sanford around the 5:00 PM rush hour on a Friday so we took 417 to WDW and the drive was good with average traffic but you do need to have alot of quarters and dollar bills to pay the tolls, when we returned we left around 10:00 AM so we drove I4 to Sanford and the traffic was not to bad, so I guess it depends on the time of day and if it's a weekend or around and holidays.

Yes you will need to have some change for the toll booth handy ( remember the booths will be on your left when you get to them) I'm sure others can tell you about any alternative routes to get about :lovestruc Just be sure to be alert near the railway crossing close to the exit from the airport :thumbsup2
