i have tried searching, but from what i read some sites it is offered and some not? some are wireless and some aren't?

any info on this, i must beable to keep in touch and let you all know how its going while i am there(especially with all the help you are giving me).

i saw something about a deposit for a kit? i don't want to pay anydeposit. i would prefer wireless of course.

Go to the Fort FAQ section to see a map of the campground that shows the wi-fi spots.

We had cable in our loop (1300) in November and got a kit for internet from the office. You just sign it out and keep it for however many days you wish. It is $10 for a 24 hour period that starts and stops the time or days you choose. They charged a $100 deposit to my credit card that was attached to my KTTWC and refunded the money the day I returned it.

The internet service was not really that good at our campsite, kind of like dial-up. I don't know how well the wi-fi works.

If you have an internal wireless card, you can go to certain WiFi spots at the Fort and get online. You STILL pay $9.95 for 24 hours of use.

If you want internet at your campsite, then you MUST borrow a cable modem from the campground and pay the deposit. It is WIRED access only. No getting around the deposit. You still pay the $9.95 per 24 hours for internet access.

I just hook my laptop to my cellphone and use the high speed 3G. Back before 3G and fancy phones ~grin~ I tethered my cell phone to my laptop and used AOL dial up.

I have great 3G coverage all over The Fort and TL

Just wanted to post that you need to have charging privelages on your KTTW card if you want to use the wifi near the trading posts.

We did not add the charging privelages, and I was not able to connect. Made for a great vacation from the office! Lots to catch up on when I returned, but the time away was great.

We've used the cable internet/modem in the past. Works ok - not super fast. And yeah, no way around the deposit. I timed my connections to get 2 "days" out of the $9.95 fee (it's for 24 consecutive hours).

I now have a wireless air card through Verizon and it's worked super well the last 2 years.

No wireless at campsites and no free internet at all from Disney. :sad2:

What about hooking a router up to the rental modem?

I have done this before as for the last 2 years i have been on a debt free lifestyle "Dave Ramsey" anyway up until a few weeks ago when i traveled i used my razor cell phone tethered to my laptop on my phone i subscribed to unlimited data and then simply setup a connection using Motorolla Phone Tools using a simple usb to phone connection. works great for short term use like at the fort. You wouldn't want to do any major downloads just quick check of e-mails and a quick search for dinner location etc.... my cell provider charges 9.95 for unlimited data and the bill never went any higher didnt tell them what I was doing and they never asked it just worked.

Before you do this, I recommend you do an internet search for "cell phone tethering" and your provider's name. Some providers actively search for folks using their phones this way without paying for a computer data plan, which in many cases is about $80-100 per month. If they see you pulling data that a cell phone cannot use (Google Earth, Flash, SWFs) they will hit you with the plan! I looked into this for a while and decided to just get an aircard. Not trying to be the data police, just don't want anybody to stumble into a potential money pit unawares. In case you are wondering why the carrier would care... you are afterall paying for unlimited data? Well, they charge very little for an unlimited data plan for a phone because a phone can't "eat much". When you load a webpage on a cell phone, all the pics are scaled down, and you probably aren't going to cruise the web for hours on a cell. And you won't be d/ling large files or watching YouTube (well, maybe on newer phones), but these are all regular activities on a computer.
:santa:

Dave Ramsey is great, without his plan we would be in BIG trouble right now.

Hi all-

Posting from under my awning ;-) On an unsecured, free network. We have been here 8 days and have been on a network free everyday, including from the Meadows trading post porch....

Just wanted to let you know, since I had been watching these posts before our trip.

some other tidbits- MK was PACKED yesterday...open until 1am. Lots of toys and other merchandise in on sale at the stores....we bought our tix at Ticket Spot on the Turnpike if you are driving in. Cheaper than Undercover and about 6 other places I compared to. Worked out great - we bought a 7day pass for the same as 4 days.

A couple of other options - There are a few Wi-Fi zones in the areas surrounding WDW which you could drive to and connect for free. I believe one of them may be the McDonalds near AK. Also they may still be operating the "Internet Cafe" down at the FW check in building. It was a room which had wired internet connections but is was free if it's still available.

The "Internet Cafe" is still located in the small room in the middle of the check in lanes. There is wired internet access there and also phone jacks for dial up. The wired internet access is not, and never has been free. It is the same service that is provided in the cabins and at other WDW resorts. The dial up is, and always has been, free.

We have been hauling our laptop down to Disney for the last five years. Once a week (we stay for five weeks), we pack up and head into town. There are tons of free internet access points. The Nickelodeon on 535 (or is it 536) has free access in their entrance. And the flea market on 192 (behind the big Orange) has several freebies and secured access points you can hop on. I have the Easy Wifi Radar software on my laptop and it is really good at locating unsecure points. Good luck.
