Does anyone use this??? We are trying to cut the excess. We hardly use our land line but our internet is bundled with it. We live in a very rural area and don't have a lot of options. Only one telephone company available.

We have At&t cell phones and I was wondering about internet access through them also. We have good signal at home so using the cell would not be an issue. I worry about 911 calls though.

I am assuming that whatever we do we would use the wireless router still at home to be able to use the computer and laptop?

This is all so over my head.

For those on the forums I visit that have satellite DSL as their only option, most like it. It's not nearly as fast as DSL, but it beats the tar out of dialup. It is the priciest of all the options though, so it's more of a 'last resort'.

First, AT&T service in rural areas is the 2.5G, or 'Edge' network. It's not as fast as 3G, and would be the slowest of all your options. Plus, if you go over your internet usage allotment, it gets insanely expensive.

Satellite DSL would use your wireless router, but I wouldn't recommend using a router with cellular, since the signal would be slow enough with just one user. It would also be next to impossible for a non-techie to set up.

Before looking elsewhere, see if your phone company offers 'standalone' DSL, in which you are not required to purchase dial tone. AT&T does, for as little as about $20 a month, but you don't say who you are with.

Good luck.

Thank you!!

Our phone and internet is through a small local company (Chequamegon - Cheqtel).

After checking prices with Directv it is cheaper to keep what we have (and faster since we have DSL) and we are changing over to Dish network for cheaper prices.

We have no other television options out here and we get hardly any stations with the converter box.

When I switched our landline service to T-mobile at Home, I just had AT&T convert the old landline to DSL only and my bill is only $20.
