DH called our internet provider Friday. We've had our internet service through them for probably 2-3 years and have never had a problem until the last 4-5 weeks. It's wireless, and it s-l-o-w-s way, way down sometimes. The download time is very poor, and sometimes it won't even do an upload test at all. Now lately we can get on early, early in the morning (I couldn't sleep so got on at 4:30 today) but by 9:00 - 10:00 we're pretty much done for the day. The homepage won't even load up in the afternoon/evenings. It's ridiculous.

So he called them. The guy seems to think it's something to do with our equipment, but we don't agree. If the power supply, or router, or whatever was bad why would we be able to get on sometimes but not others?

The repairman is coming today (Sunday) at 8:00 a.m. I hope something can be done, especially because DH uses the internet for his job. It's frustrating to be paying for it and not having service when we need/want to use it.

We had that happen to us about 3 years ago. After an almost 3 month ordeal with our cable company we canceled their service and went to Dish and DSL. What happens with cable internet is that there is X amount of "speed" that runs through the line. In the morning or at night there aren't as many people using that line so that is why you can get on. During the day, more people are on that line so it slows your system down. Most likely you have a bad modem and that exasperates the problem.

In our case they kept telling us it was the cable lines in the house, no, the cable like going up to the house, then not getting the people here to fix it on time, blah, blah, blah-it turned out to be a bad modem, which is what we told them in the first place.

Degrading lines can definately be an issue, when we moved into our place we had very spotty (and at random times) connections with slow response. They came through and replaced all the lines in the neighborhood about 6 months later and had the place rewired with new lines and it was night and day different!

Were they able to help you? Hope so:)

Yes, they were! :goodvibes The repairman was here at 8:30 this morning (I still can't believe they work on Sundays) and it took him 4 hours to fix the problem. He replaced the entire antenna, cables, router, everything. He said they no longer even use the antenna we had plus he pointed it at a different tower. It is working great now, very speedy. And best of all, no charge! :thumbsup2

Cool! Just curious, which internet provider was this?

We're having issues with our cable box.......it was shutting off by itself, there were weird lines on the TV screen, it would freeze up for no reason....we exchanged it yesterday, new cable box isn't letting us access On Demand (yes, we have Comcast) so we have a repairman coming tomorrow night between 6 & 8. shocked me that they had something that late.
i'm glad you got your issue fixed, keep me in your thoughts for tomorrow that our cable box gets fixed. :)
