I've never used this and I was wondering if it's a good idea.

I have two sons who will be going on our points - one in May / one in June - should I suggest that they use this.

Do I have to do it for them or can they take care of it.

You can do it for them or they can do it. To me on line check in is of little benefit to the Guests but it is a cost savings for Disney.

Curious, I know there is online checkin and then I have heard of a way that you are able to provide them your cell phone number at checkin and they will text you when your room is ready.

My question is can you do the online checkin and provide your cell number at that time and you will receive a text when your room is ready OR do you have to checkin in person and at that time provide them your number.

I was not sure how the whole text you when your room is ready thing works.

You can provide a cell phone number during on-line check-in to have the room ready text sent to you.

I agree that it is a benefit to WDW - less work & less opportunity for errors at the Front Desk. That said, it's been a benefit to me, too.

We used online check in for our trip that began yesterday. It took all of 94 seconds (I timed it, LOL) to get our stuff. There was no line at the BWV special online check in station. (Last time we used it at the BWV, there was no special station. It did take a little longer that time since we had to wait a bit. It went very fast for our last trip at the BLT, though).

I also really like that I can enter my credit card for room charges with online check in - that way none of the front desk employees have to see it or key it. Any errors are mine! I admit that I'm a bit paranoid about identity theft, though.

I use it. You will receive either an automated voice message or text when your room is ready. I received an automated phone message before we arrived at Disney, so I knew our room number before we got there.

What if the room you are assigned is in a location you dislike and would like to see if another might be available? Does doing online check-in make this more difficult? I arrive tomorrow at BWV and am considering online check-in but if I am assigned a x051 BW view room, I would like to see if there might be something else instead.
P.S. Carol, maybe I will see you there!

One of the savings for Disney is that your room packet is put together the night before your arrival during slow times for the Front Desk. Your room may have been assigned the night before or a couple of days before.

Guests are given the packet, ID checked, and you are on your way. Disney doesn't want you to negotiate your room and they don't want to make changes to your room assignment. On line check in reduces the changes and it has been reported that at some resorts, the Cast Members have been told that room changes are not allowed.

Disney is very good at implementing policies and programs that saves them money while convincing us that it was done for our benefit. :thumbsup2

If this truly saves Disney money, then it should, in turn, also save us money on dues, as resort operating expenses are paid by dues at DVC resorts.

That would be great!

It is absolutely gorgeous here. I love Flower & Garden. If I can figure ouyt how to post pictures, I'll do that later. Have a safe trip!

We're taking a break now (someone wants to watch the end of the NFL draft) and then going back for Atlanta Rhythm and dinner at Le Cellier.

Thanks for the replys.

If they do on-line check-in, what happens with their luggage if room is not ready when they arrive (which will probably be the case) and they don't have to go to check-in because they did it online.

DH and I have always driven but my sons are flying and using Magical Express.

The luggage would be stored by bell services until the room is ready, then delivered.

Saving money at the expense of benefits to DVC Members and Guests is what I'm against. Using on line check as an excuse to remove room selection at check in is wrong in my book.

Same with the poor excuse of taking away free Valet perking for members because the Valet's were outsourced.

So...don't use it if you need a specific location to be happy. Otherwise, my requests were honored when I used online check-in.

Just FYI, they still have to go up to the On-Line Check-In counter to get their keys and folder.

We've done both and, like Bill, found it to be of little benefit. In fact, the last time we used standard check-in we were in and out before many people who used on-line check-in as there was a line for on-line check-in and no line for the standard check-in.

In March, online check in didn't speed things up for us either at Kidani or at BCV. Yesterday I tried again for checkin at POFQ and it worked like a charm. Our packet was done when we got there and our room was ready. I only had one request, a first floor room. We got a beautiful corner room (two windows) in building 3 on the first floor. I coudn't have asked for more.

I did online checkin for thurs at BLT so we'll see how that goes. In December, the CM wouldn't let me stand in the line for online checkin guests. He said ALL CMs were trained in what to do with someone who checked in online so I should stand in the regular line with everyone else. It was a mess. I'm hoping to see improvement this week.

Personally, I rarely get my requests at BWV whether or not I check in online. I usually get opposite of what is requested.

So since we did online checkin for AKL yesterday, for tomorrow, we can go straight to a park until we get a call/text from them saying the room is ready? :confused3
