The question. McAfee vs Norton

Next month the McAfee program that came with my Dell expires.

The decision is do I renew it or go with Norton

My internet provider is Comcast along with cable.

Their service includes free Norton antivirus. This is what is included

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I used to think I didn't need antivirus but after losing two laptops in a few years, I bought Norton and have been completely virus-free for the last four years. Can't compare it to McAfee but know I'm quite happy with Norton.

At one time I had mcafee and I didn't like it then it let a virus through and I got Norton and I like it a lot.

McAfee is a huge resource hog... i uninstalled it and the computer was 10 times faster...

i vote for other. Norton can also be a resource hog as well... but not as bad as McAfee.

How about free? I use Avast -- the free version -- and I've never had a problem. The virus definitions are updated several times a day.

Neither McAfee nor Norton... both slow down the system such a lot that it ends up hanging every other day and I need to restart the entire system. Not just me, have heard this from other sources as well. I would also suggest avast..apart from the fact that you can download it for free, I can vouch for the fact that it doesn't slow down your system at all and protects it well enough.

Kapersky is one that is often recommended by IT professionals over either of the two you mentioned. Just a thought

for Kaspersky!!

Always had viruses with Norton and McAfee until one of my IT folks recommended I try Kaspersky about 4 years ago. I'll never use anything else now!

Neither. Why pay for a virus program that hogs system resources, isn't updated as quickly, and doesn't do nearly as good of a job?

Get Avast, Microsoft Security Essentials, or Kapersky.

DS17 is a huge computer geek and he says Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials. The one time I got a nasty virus it went right through Macafee. He to system restore to the original settings.

I'm a network administrator and I vote for Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes. Both free and the combination does a good job for both virus and spyware protection.

We use Kapersky on our network at my office. I use Microsoft Security Essentials, crap cleaner, malware bytes at home.
