Internet agent without cancellation fee

I am currently planning my summer trip to Florida (and Orlando). I like to book hotels in advance and be able to cancel reservations if necessary.

However it seems that all the internet agents seem to have a cancellation fee these days (which was definitely not the case a year ago).

I am not talking about a fee you pay to the hotel if you do not cancel 24 or 72 hours before you arrival.

Anybody knows links where I can book without having to pay these fees if I must cancel?

TIA
Werner

My advice would be to book with the hotel and/or airline website directly. They usually don't have cancellation fee's while your Expedia's & Orbitz's of the world seem to.

I've booked hotels using Orbitz and cancelled them without penalty. Unless there is a very recent change, Orbitz doesn't charge to cancel. You are only subject to the last minute cancellation polices of the hotel itself.

Both Orbitz and Expedia Have "special deals" . The "special deal" hotels must be paid in advance. Some of the hotel websites have this too. I found a 21 day advance speical on the Marriott site recently. Other hotels booked via Expedia and Orbitz don't have the cancellation policies. Of course if your hotel is one of their special deals it is impossible to find the regular room rate which I find difficult to understand.

I used www.go2orlando.com for our trip 2 weeks ago. It had the standard one night deposit or credit card guarantee depending on which hotel you pick. Also, they don't charge a user's fee. There prices were the cheapest I could find, and I spent hour's looking. It has a standard cancellation policy of around 24 hours. Also, at the last minute we decided to go a week early. I cancelled the reservations I had and made new ones right there. I wasn't charged a fee for cancelling the original reservation.

worth checking into: directly thru the hotel/chain's website. Always click specal offers if a link to same exists. Occasisonally, you can even get a BETTER room rate w/o cancellation penalty than if you book thru a big 'net consolidator where you have to pay the whole stay up front w/ $50 cancellation fee. Many hotels charge 1st night stay up front if you book direct with them, but this fully refunded if you cancel 72 hrs out.

The above is especially true of Vegas hotels, and some Orlando ones time time to time.

FYI - Dreams Unlimited does not charge a cancellation fee outside of the hotel's normal/current cancellation policy.

As long as you cancel within the hotel's timeframe (which is clearly stated on every quote) there is no penalty or fee's involved if you book through DU.

Thanks
John

There were two times when I had to cancel a previous reservation. Having booked directly with the hotel, I was charged no fees and my credit card was credited in full.

Since life happens and you could never tell when, go the route direct with the hotels. I believe most give you up to a week before arrival to cancel without penalties.

I recently booked with hotel kingdom and they only have a $10 cancellation fee plus they only charge 1 nights deposit. But, it isn't real time booking and they can take up to 24hr to get back to you (I heard from them in about 2 though).

Good luck

I recently used Travelocity and was able to book a room cheaper than by using that chains website or by calling the hotel. They use the hotels cancellation policy.
But do check with the hotel first before booking with Travelocity because it isn't always the cheaper way to go!
