Hi ,

I was thinking of taking my laptop to florida as the hotel we are staying at has free internet access in the rooms.

Would I need a cable to connect to this or is it done by searching on the laptop for their router?

Any thoughts welcome.

All depends on the hotel you are staying at.
For eg Country Inn and suites, Coutryard by Marriott LBV(Palm parkway) or Fairfield Inn, Homewood Suites(Universal) all are wireless throughout.
Comfort Inn LBV is a wired connection
These are a few we have stayed in, let me know which hotel see if I know.

Hi ,

Thanks for replying so promptly.

We will be staying at the Lake Buena Vista village resort & Spa

If you check on your hotel website it should say if it's wifi. If not then I'd take a cable to be on the safe side!

I wish WDW hotels had free internet!

Thanks, I have looked on the website and it states: Free wired hi-speed internet access in all rooms. I think I have just answered my own question as have just googled the hotel and that is what I found on another site.

So I shall need to go and buy the cable as it did not come with my laptop but I think would be worthwhile.

How sad am I taking it on holiday anyway!

Not sad at all! My camera and video camera couldn't cope with a 2 week trip with no laptop to unload onto!

I think the majority of us take laptops on holiday with us. :)

Says wired in rooms, everywhere I have stayed with a wired connection has had a patch cable hung up in the wardrobe or if not there ask at reception. I take my own to make sure but I also take a travel router to turn the wired connection into wireless, can run both our laptops(or 3 if we take them all) then a lot easier. Something like this

This is one I have but don't think you can get it anywhere now, cost me £20 brand new off Ebay couple of years ago.

Don't get me going again:rotfl2:, going to cost me $160 this August for 16 nights:mad:

Lol, I think I might go for every other day, but that's still like £50.........:scared1:

Sad thing is I'll pay it...and that's what Disney knows!

I may ask at work about claiming it as expenses though, as I can't not check my e-mails.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

We go to Gatwick tomorrow evening to stay over before our flight on Thursday so I shall head off in the morning to try and get a cable.

Do you think Maplins or currys would have them and Do I ask for a certain cable?
Excuse my ignorance as I mainly use a PC but thought It might be handy to take it this trip.

Can I take it on as hand luggage?

Yeah, well be fine as hand luggage. :) You'll have to take it out of your bag to be scanned on it's own at the airport is all.

You'll need an ethernet cable.

If you have internet at home you will have one of these cables anyway. Ends look like this:

Thank you I have just checked my speedtouch router and it has a yellow ethernet lead attached with the same code on it 2835 as the link you displayed so I should be able to unplug that.

Does anyone know if those dongle thingies work over there? Or if you can buy them over there?

And can you pay the $10 charge daily or do you have to have it for your entire trip? I'd only want it for a few days I think.

They work but prices are ASTRONOMICAL!!

And I had a look at buying them but they cost way more than if you buy one in the UK. :sad2: Like $150 for the dongle and then more for the internet - so WDW prices will be cheaper.

You just pay per 24hr period. I think what I'll do is:

If we are having a night in, I'll buy 24hrs at like 8pm or something. And then I can also use it the next day up until 8pm. So you kinda get 2 days worth out of your $10. Maybe do this 4 or 5 times.

Just looked on Vodafone for dongle usage costs, £4.99/MB for US roaming.
Would cost us more for internet than the room at that rate.

As previous post says you pay for each 24 hours at Disney, we managed with 2 days connection for 3 nights stay last year.
