Hello everyone,
We're thinking of taking a 7-day Disney Cruise. The problem is, I must be able to access the Internet during the trip. Can you bring a laptop on board? Is there an Internet connection in each cabin, or what? Is there a charge for using the service?
Thanks in advance for your help! :)

There are no internet connections in the staterooms and you would not be able to hook up your laptop to the internet. (Although, I have heard other Dis members say that these things are coming in the future.)

This said, internet access is available onboard. The Internet Cafe and The Cove Cafe both have internet connected desktops. The charge is not cheap and runs either $0.75 per minute or a flat per cruise rate of $89.99 for the seven night.

As far as I know, the only internet connections are in the area where they have PCs set up for passenger use. You can not plug into one of those connections. If you just need internet access, you can pay for the unlimited use package and use their PCs.

If you must use a laptop...... The only way you could connect from your cabin would be via phone. If you use the phone in the cabin, you pay a very large per minute charge (ship to shore rates - several dollars per minute). Your only other alternative would be to use a cell phone when you are in port

I believe the ship-to-shore rates are $7.99 per minute. Ouch!

Internet terminals are in the Internet Cafe on Deck 3 and in the new Coffee house on deck 9. You can access the internet but can not load any files or programs onto the terminals.

They are planning to add wireless internet access to both of these areas so you can bring your laptop and have access to the internet. No timeframe on when that installationis scheduled.

How many computers do they have available. I'd hate to pay the $90 or so fee and find out I could never get a PC.

They had about 10-12 stations next to the Promenade Lounge when we cruised in August and from what I understand there are more stations in the newly added "Cove" ..... Andy

I've never had a problem getting a computer at most there are about 5 people at the Internet cafe at any given moment and they have about 10 computers. I was most recently on the wonder last week so I did not get to experience the new Teen club "the stack" or the old teen club which is now the Coffee house.

BTW for anyone (preferably Castaway Club members; that way you've been on the on of the ships before and know what it was like previously) who has been on the Magic since dry dock can you please share the changes they have made and what you like/dislike about them.

When my husband went to the Promenade Lounge (adjacent to the Internet Access area) to pick up our AAA mugs, he registered us to win a free unlimited access internet pass. We didn't win, but if it matters to you a lot, you should register too! Maybe your luck will be better!

I understand very few people actually enter the drawing, so you have a quite good chance of winning.

i will most definately enter. Hey you have to be in it to have a chance of winning it!

If you want access to email, I would suggest that you get an account that is set up for web access. You can then use the Internet Cafe to get to your web accessible account. Last year, I just forwarded all my office email (OK - I was a workaholic) to my web accessable account and was able to spend an hour or so after the evening show doing the email.

Be aware that the speed is not great. It's not the same as home broadband, probably because the whole ship is sharing one satelite connection.

I did not have any problem bringing my laptop, but did not use it much because of no connection.

Wireless access would be great! I think the expense of wiring staterooms would be prohibitive.
